I hadn't anticipated it would be this good, we're off to a great start. Maybe the characters help, but I didn't feel like I was being dragged around to take a look at each character's origin, even though it was exactly what happened. The story just flowed. And then there's the great cast...
So, I was gonna give this show a pass because, even though I liked their appearance in that episode of Titans, the gang didn't actually do much for me, then, and I really didn't want to watch yet another superhero show (I watch too many of those, already!)...
... But then I noticed Brendan Fraser and Timothy Dalton were in this and that piqued my curiosity. Oh boy, am I glad I ended up watching this! Titans is darker, but Doom Patrol is funnier, Robotman cracks me up (excellent casting choice on that one)!
Also, maybe it's because of Penny Dreadful, but I really enjoy Timothy Dalton as Charles Xavier, huh, I mean, as Chief, being in charge of the whole gang (again, excellent casting choice).
I loved the narration, I hope they'll keep that (though after the villain having been introduced, I guess they'll drop it).
I was definitely pleasantly surprised, I would never guess they'd manage to keep up with the same quality level of Titans, and I'm now eager to watch one hour of this every week!
DC may not be fairing that well on the big screen (well, not according to me, anyway), but they sure are nailing it on the smaller one.
I suspect we're gonna have a lot of fun with this bunch of freaks!
I knew I remembered Rita but I couldn't remember where from, so I googled. She was the cute and cool but slightly ditzy blonde roommate to Deb in Drop Dead Diva.
I like the robot/Jane friendship... an oddly appropriate pairing.
If not for the shittiness of the world, this would be a golden age.
Trying a bit too hard to be quirky, which ends up making it cliché, but, I'll give it at least a few episodes before I make up my mind. Morden wants to be "a leaf on the wind", so the world can "watch me soar!"....
Avoided this since I didn't know if the DC curse would steamroll over one of the most underrated teams in comic books, but after not hating their appearance in Titans, I thought I'd at least give the first episode a go.
Somehow they managed to really capture that special feeling that the team have; a team of people that didn't want their abilities, and aren't cut out for it. I loved it, and the ending had me clicking frantically for more.
Since their appearance at Titans (2018), I can already tell that this is going to be my new favorite show. I hope DC create a whole new universe out of these series of shows, ‘cause they pretty much started out one already. Looks like DC is finally catching up on your ass Marvel since you cancelled all your shows on Netlix! LOL
I had thought that the premier of "Doom Patrol" would have a lot of caring up to do to keep up with "The Umbrella Academy." I was pleasently surprised that the first episode kept me interested in the team. Looking forward to watching the next one.
Good start for the show. I liked the narration by Mr. Nobody the most, it was great.
Doom Patrol is off to a great start with eccentric characters imbued with stellar performances. The plot of misfits coming together (reminded me of Guardians of the Galaxy) isn't atypical but the way it is executed - for lack of better words- is absurdly unique. Mr. Nobody narrating the story was a
major drawback. Everyone else is as deft as it could be.
I enjoyed the first episode a lot, the characters are really interesting. Even Brendan Fraser is great (which surprised me because I normally don‘t like his roles).
There wasn't much marketing for it outside of DC Universe website. i totally forgot about the show until stumbling across it on some streaming site.
Since Titans introduced Doom Patrol to the series, I wanted more information on them, so this was good starting point for the series.
This was fun but those VFX were ughhh… Hopefully they look that cheap only in the pilot.
i remember watching this pilot when it got released back in 2019, thought it was a little boring and never came back to it, even tho i knew it always got praised by its public. now it's 2023, comic book adaptations are very saturated and it's hard to find something genuinely good or at least fun to watch... then i decided to give this one a chance again and yeah this ep is way better than what i remember! i'll keep watching
Seriously best ending I have ever seen! Brenden Frazier going “What the F:asterisk_symbol:ck!” :joy:
The writing in this is really sloppy and all over the place. But maybe what it lacks in understandable narrative, it makes up in character construction. Even when its tricks are really are more obvious than charming.
We are of to a pretty good start, good casting choices and interesting backstories.
Well that was pretty good. The best bit, no blue filter.
Anyone else recognize Mr. Morden(Nobody) from Firefly?
I'm still a bit confused, but probably will give it a try :)
This first episode is better than all the other DC shows. I mean, if the rest of the season keeps this quality, i can say that doom patrol is going to be one of the best superhero shows of all time.
It was quite engaging despite a slightly dumb and weird ending.

That was better than I expected. DC put out some money for some name brand stars. At first I didn't think the way the story was being laid out would work by the end I was liking it.
Timothy Dalton was a step up from the guy on Titans.
On a side note. When a show does you the kindness of a backdoor pilot it would be only courteous to mention them when you get started.
