The rivarly between Serena and Blair really hits the high stakes in this episode. Loved the drama. Also liked the fact Serena and Dan were talking again, they need to work things out. They're the more grounded of the characters and I think they'd be good for each other. Also, I can see a friendship blossoming between Nate and Dan. I think Dan's down-to-earth hardworking attitude is what they all need to get a bit of a reality check. Chuck and Blair are conniving evil villains and I want to see them get their comeuppance and start acting more compassionate and human. Not enough Jenny in this episode but her and Eric get a little side-arc which is cute.
Blair is such a bitch, but for some reason, I am really entertained by it. So much love for the Humphrey boys too!

What the hell, Blair is a little shite! I'm getting too into this show already, as I can't bloody stand her and Chuck ha! But yet again it's Serena & Dan that are the reasons I'm enjoying this show at the moment, Serena's brother Eric seems okay too, along with Jenny. But we'll see how things play out!

The first real glimpse of Gossip Girl's own particular brand of greatness. Farce-y machinations having real consequences, manipulators faced with their own ugliness, and taking a step back from the ledge. The show was always frothy fun, but its real USP was the way it managed to leaven the out-sized drama with actual emotional impact. This early on, that impact is somewhat lessened by the fact that not all the younger members of the ensemble had found their feet yet (Leighton Meester perhaps the only one to hit the ground running). Also, the pedestrian direction early on sadly overshadowed the considerable talents of Ron Fortunato's cinematography, though his style thankfully became more of a dominant force as the show went on.
