Is just me or the animation is getting worst?

We get a moment of peace and normal life here as the team settles in to this next town, Shintori Station. The girls get to go on a shopping spree using their bargain skills. The Tanabata festival is celebrated in this episode which would mean historically, this setting is confirmed to be taking place after the Edo period, so my guess of Meiji/Taisho era was just about right. The clothing patterns also proved it. They used a piano acoustic version of the end theme song in the background during the celebration here which is pretty nice. There some nice scenic shots of the land; especially as the sun sets.
Now about the fireworks: We know they are to celebrate the Tanabata star festival. Historically, fireworks were invented in China along with gunpowder and believed to scare off evil spirits. In a case like this, wouldn't the noise and lights attract the Kabane? Fireworks can be heard and seen from miles away. We get a little more background behind Mumei whose real name is Hozumi, and her family. I'm now suspecting the Shogun to have something to do with the Kabane disease that's been spreading.
