In 2001, Los Angeles Police Department's cold case unit reopened the files on a series of unsolved murders from the 1980s. As police search for DNA evidence to unlock these homicides which occurred in the South Central Los Angeles area, they are stunned to discover a new victim 14 years after the last known murder. DNA evidence leads them to Lonnie David Franklin Jr., also known by the nickname 'The Grim Sleeper.' He was responsible for at least ten murders and one attempted murder in Los Angeles, California from 1985 to 2007.
