Boy am I glad that psycho Janice is finally dead. Hope Dom survives.
This week it's Slater's turn to show off his acting props. And they are considerable here. His monologue when Elliot invites him back is done extremely well -- neither overplayed nor underdone -- and also reminds us that he is NOT Elliot's dad; rather, he has done his best to be Elliot's protector and has tried to have his back. And along those lines, it may be up to him to convince Elliot to go through with the hack...
Give. Me. More. Dom.
Not to downplay all the emotional stuff we had to deal with after the previous episode but like, that few minutes of Dom slaying the dark army guys and Janice while being within an inch from death was impressive. Maybe not 100% realistic yet totally satisfying.
Look, Cunt Stick, there's no way I'm giving up my brother
Darlene
This was very underwhelming and very incoherent with the show's narrative. Utterly, god ex machina, the easiest way out.
Episode seven was a largely necessary, well executed but slightly underwhelming gimmick that fuels the final stretch of a series that has been nothing short of breathtaking for years. I wish that there could have been some way to integrate the revelations of the past episode into a format that felt more fitting (even a one-take episode would be a bit more on-brand for _Mr. Robot). As it stood, episode seven is still a pretty excellent piece of filmmaking, even if the technique feels as though it belongs in another show.
But.
We are back on track with the beautifully written empathetic break of Mr. Robot Season Four. Malek and Slater are bringing it. So much so that it slightly undermines the b-plot with Dom and Darlene in this episode. Thankfully, that resolves into a tone that ultimately falls in line with the a-plot so we don't have to muck around with it any longer. It was perfectly fine and serviceable, but it still felt like antics that I didn't need.
I am optimistic about the end of this show. I was somewhat skeptical about last episode's major reveal, but what Esmail chose to do with it in 408 Request Timeout seems to grasp the weight and implications well enough that I've been pulled back on board.
An episode with a Christian Slater monologue ... marvellous.
Nothing but waste of time. I'm so done with this bs
The plot-twist with Mr. Robot and his deeds last episode has to be the lowpoint for me for this whole show, it could have easily been dealt with in another way without damaging the character of Mr.Robot. Doing it this way ruins too much and spirals this show into a big apology for everyone and everything. This isn't the CW... this is something better... or should have been.
I enjoyed everything else though.
I really hope this side track is done with & we can go back to the main storyline. This touchy Feely crap has been a waste of time.
Outstanding episode! The sluggish pacing in the first half does make me feel as though some time is being wasted, but we're still getting some stunning storytelling, excellent writing, and even now, some pretty surprising plot twists! Bravo to everyone involved!
But the childhood scene doesn't make any sense. Darlene should've seen something.

This got to be one of the best episodes of the year.
