Why would hula not make this bingeable?
I’m not trying to be an edgy hater but I can’t think of a single type of person my age I’d recommend this to, I don’t think it’s watchable for people under the age of 50. Extremely contrived plotting, bad/annoying characters, some of the most forced acting I’ve seen on tv and the comedy doesn’t land at all. Technically it’s really plain and basic, though the score has a few nice moments here and there. Maybe it hit differently during the pandemic, I don’t get it at all.

Who would imagine Steve Martin, Martin Short & Selena Gomez would have this amazing chemistry with each other? This show has done everything right with me thus far. It revitalized my love for Martin and Short and definitely got me in the mood to watch Three Amigos again and dabble even further in their playbooks. I believe in a few short episodes Selena solidified her place beyond the threshold of a child star. To top it off they've told a fun, creative story off a very worn genre and have fun doing it. I can't wait for what Season 2 has in store.
"Top" 3 Episodes:
1. Open and Shut
2. Double Time
3. Fanfiction
I have been honestly surprised with how much I enjoyed this.
It's slow paced, but.... wow, quite amazing. Steve Martin is less Steve and Selena is a whole lot less Selena. Superb!
The chemistry between the unlikely partners in crime is superb.
Only saw first 8 episodes so far, hope they will be able to keep up the quality.
Such a slow burn. Let this be a warning, the show does not start the good investigative speed and drama until episode 5. I hated Oliver for being cringey and loud but once the mystery gets going, he serves as a nice opposite to Charles and Mabel. In fact they all are good characters and the mystery is really satisfying and even funny. Just give it time guys.
overall I liked the season, it has a great start and a great potential too, the trio of these 3 are so fun to follow and its like old school murder mystery stories but through a new lens/angle and its awesome!
Fun lighthearted murder mystery. Good chemistry between the characters and the male leads are great. Selena's acting skills are a bit average I feel. Funny show, excellent fashion. Short episodes that make it quite watchable. Nothing mind blowing though so I don't quite understand the 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Show was removed from Disney+ after I saw the first 4 episodes, and I probably won't miss it too much.
Two lonely old guys and a mysterious girl share their true crime passion by secretly investigating a murder in their building while at the same time leaking all their progress on a public podcast? That's not even the most unrealistic part of “Only Murders in the Building”, but the tongue-in-cheek tone and references to old-school crime dramas with improvised investigators like “Murder, She Wrote” makes me forgive everything. The three leads have perfect chemistry, and their characters are surrounded by a sense of melancholy that balances the comedic aspects well.
Surely a whole season for a single case might seem like a little too much, but episodes are pretty short and filled with the right amount of humor, investigation, and juicy character development. Watching episodes was like eating cherries. The only episode I didn’t like was the fan fiction one. Although the twist literally came out of nowhere, for some reason I always knew Jan was going to be the surprise killer. Casting choices? Clichés? Not sure. It's weird though that they specifically added that scene with Jan finding a note on her door. Although we might get an explanation in season two, that was just either a plot hole or an unfair trick to get the audience off track.
Just watched this for the first time and was surprised by how much I loved it. Genuinely funny, great chemistry between the three leads, well-written characters and a well-executed script. I wasn't expecting to get engrossed in the actual murder mystery but it was surprisingly well-written and engaging. This first season was just a great blend of comedy and mystery that I found very intriguing and a ton of fun. I was very happily surprised by this show.
Well that was fun. Really enjoyed season 1. Let’s hope there is a second season. I’d forgot how good an actor Steve Martin is.
What a great, fun, lovely show. The cast is perfect, those two guys still have impeccable timing in their comedy instincts, the mystery plot is interesting and fun with all the misdirections and on a couple of occasions it made me almost suffocate with laughter. I hope they don't mess it up in season 2.
Although wrapped in comedy, this series was no less exciting in mystery than other serious murder mystery series.
Selena Gomez's chemistry with Steve Martin and Martin Short was really gripping.
If there's a season 2, I won't be watching.

Great show!
My only question is... who wrote the note in Jane's door?
