Even in the Star Trek universe a plant can cause you loads of trouble! Personally, I'm never really a fan of episodes with rehashed footage
I hate clip shows, always have. Even a great show such as this can't get away with it. First 15 minutes are OK, then it goes down fast.
If I remember the production history correctly this was due to the fact that the Borg episode ate up more than the usual budget for an episode so they had to come with ways to save money elsewhere. Which ultimately led to a clip show as the season finale. It would have been an awful episode at any point of the season but as a finale it's even worse. It would have been better to shorten the season by not producing this episode. But S2 is already the shortest so maybe that wasn't possible, I don't know. (I went to check up on that, there was a writers strike happening around that time)
If there is any episode of the whole run you can leave out, it is this one. I would rate it as a bottom five of the whole franchise.
What lazy writing! I can't believe this even aired. Besides being predominantly reused footage, the medical treatment is horrible.
If the doctor could kill the infection, she should have done so before it left Riker's leg. I'm sure he would have rather been alive without a usable leg than dead.
Also, stimulating memories to release endorphins is inefficient. If Riker had less than an hour to live, once she diagnosed the chemicals needed, just replicate them and injected Riker and saved him, and us, from reliving horrible memories, especially since he was supposed to have been so weak.
I hate to call any of that spoilers. The episode is so bad it can't really be spoiled any more.
Thank God for fast forward.
Uchhhh clip shows suck so much
Shortest episode for me yet. Luckily, I'm watching it on Netflix, so the fact that I've been on a Star Trek marathon didn't play against me too much. Glad I was only 5 months and 2 days old when this originally aired though, otherwise I think I would've been super pissed with a greatest hits finale with reused footage.
Wow, a clip show, as a season finale? Seriously? What a big ol' dump. At least it was something I could easily skip through, having watched all of those clips very recently.
I've heard many times that S3 is when the rubber really hits the road for TNG. I'm hoping it hasn't been overhyped.
This is TNG's Assignment: Earth. A disgrace. Just like with TOS's Assignment: Earth, the story isn't even the worst part. It's just that I feel betrayed. The tight production schedule and limited budget shouldn't be an excuse. Sure, now we can skip such an episode and quickly progress. But back then, this was a season finale. People had to wait for 3x01. Possibly weeks. And this is the last episode they were "forced" to watch? Seriously? I can only guess how many viewers they have lost between the second and third season due to this season finale. And in the era of binge watching and online accessibility, even "best scene clip shows" lost all of their appeal. Back then, some of the reused scenes were aired weeks in the past and not everyone religiously taped all episodes to be able to rewatch selected scenes whenever they liked. So there was maybe good reason for a clip show back then, but in 2024 this episode is expandable.
Wtf did I just watch? Wtf happened to the creature sample from Geordi and Data? Wtf kind of nonsense dialogue is this with Deanna and the Dr? Wtf?
…wtf?
I could barely focus on this episode. Not a fan of reusing clips.
This was mostly a clip show so I skipped a lot of it
Gotta love budget episodes... NOT
The last scene left me in a laugh trap!

The season two finale is a clip show. A clip show! I swear, only this show could get away with this nonsense.
