Counselor Troi's laughter at the sight of the bearded Data is a childish act and disrespectful towards him. I wonder why they wrote that in.

Even in 24th century Doctors are to be avoided it seems. Data having a human occupant was extremely well played. There's something 'creepy' about an Android face with emotional expression

The Vulcan doctor is played by the actress who also plays Marshall's mother on How I Met Your Mother. Damn. Doesn't even look remotely the same. I was floored when I learned that. I guess that's what a wig, fake ears, and ~20 years will do to you.

episode was mid, wish it had guest-starred patrick mcgoohan as planned but at least they had his oppositional defiance disorder down pat

Despite telling parts of Data's origin story (well, in a broad ense) and despite the premise being intriguing in theory, it's a pretty weak episode. I like the Vulcan doctor though. Memo to the writers: you can't just do something with Data and expect it to work alright. Plus, Data's behavior is so suspicious, the crew should have noticed the issue way earlier. Ironically, it's the first time that Deanna is doing actual psychology work. She seems to be better with machines than people (in the first seasons). Plus: how does this work? He transferred everything that makes him human and Data's computer can handle that fine? Why can't Data download another man's brain to augment his personalitythen? The only memorable scene is perhaps Data's eulogy. That's almost a comedy. Reminds me of Data "Ode to Spock".

Yeah it takes way too long to get to the very obvious conclusion

A nostalgic nod to the Wizard of Oz with a man vs death plot. The ending is unrealistic however. Also the Vulcan doctor...wow. T'pol has a run for her money.
