I like that episode but, admittedly, more so in hindsight because it introduced Risa and Vash. And because we see Max Grodenchik for the first time. The story itself is alright, it don't has to be the fate of the universe all the time, hasn't it? It's important to see the characters doing stuff like, taking a vacation. If reluctantly. Makes the whole show more believable. But I always thought there is a big error here. If the time travellers do allready know what has happened, as it is "recorded history" to them, then it made little sense to go back. If their history had changed, well, then they would have gone back to correct it. Or am I being to picky ?

I know this is generally considered a fun adventure episode, but somehow it does absolutely nothing for me. Maybe it's because so little of it is spent on the Enterprise with the rest of the crew, maybe it's because Picard is so grumpy or maybe it's because Vash isn't an interesting character (at this point, at least).

Max Grodenchik is great as a pre-Rom Ferengi, but the other aliens are TERRIBLE.

It does introduce us to Risa, which is a ridiculous place that I'm sure we all wish we could visit, but its depiction here is laughable. Riker, Troi and Crusher get funny scenes trying to convince the captain to take a holiday. Indiana Jones-lite with none of the charm or excitement.

Picard’s vacation attire is iconic!
