Romulans. So, what were they doing there? I wanted answers.

Another Geordie-centric episode following straight on the heels of the previous one, but this is much more dynamic. Geordie is also far more interesting when the focus isn't his love life, plus we get to see him without the visor on. LeVar Burton has a very expressive face, so letting us see his eyes is always a good thing.

The very tense situation on the ship is the better side of the episode, though. Romulan intrigue is always entertaining, while Worf gets to make a bold character statement. The scenes he has with both Riker and Picard are wonderful, with the Captain showing him the respect he deserves by not ordering him to help the Romulan, despite the situation.

The fantastic Andreas Katsulas makes his first appearance as Commander Tomalok, and he always leaves an impression. We get to see the better production values of season 3 down on the planet's surface, it looks far more realistic than the cheap cardboard sets we've been stuck with from previous seasons.

Following Booby Trap with another LaForge episode was probably not a great idea in terms of placement. You could put this episode anywhere as it does not corrolate to others. However it doesn't change the fact that this is a much better episode in general and another reminder that many Star Trek stories are timeless. This deal with ressentiments and hatred between species. With suspicion and open rejection. Something we still haven't overcome. Looking at the state of things today I'd say it's even become worse.
I found Picard's mentioning of Pearl Harbour not quite fitting. That was a first strike scenario. Tomalak (played by the great Andreas Katsulas) seemingly was more attemting to create an incident to, maybe (?), provoke a war. Or have the excuse to retaliate. That sounds more like the 1939 fake attack on Germany by Poland which was done by Germany itself. In the big picture it doesn't let the episode down, though.

Two Geordi-centric episodes in a row - first he gets shot down by a woman and has to resort to kissing a hologram, and now he's held captive on an uncomfortably stormy planet. Dude has had a rough go of it lately!

"I never lie when I've got sand in my shoes, Commodore." Lol

So Romulans trespass into Federation territory, which is violating the Neutral Zone, then power up weapons and lock onto the Federation flagship... yet nothing will come of this, I'm sure.

Strangely, that's the second "La Forge episode" in a row. I like it better than the previous episode. It suffers from the same old same old paper mache caves and low-budget FX. The general topic of this episode – making friends or at least coexisting with adversaries – is nicely illustrated though. Due to the pending Romulan attack and the situation down on the planet, that's also an exciting episode.

PS: I really like that Worf doesn't do what the average human would do. That would make Dorn's character totally dull

PS: I can't remember if there's a follow-up episode. If not that would be disappointing. I'd really like to know what the Romulans did there.

Great episode, and then they have to end it on 2 crappy notes! They beamed Geordi and Romulan dude straight to bridge, but when beaming him to his own ship, they have to go down to Transporter Room 1 to do it? And Picard says they’ll escort the ship back to the neutral zone, only for the final scene to show the two ships going in opposite directions?

I don’t really get what the Romulans’ goal is. They don’t want all out war but they do want to send spies over the Neutral border. What is the end goal of either side? I know it’s a metaphor for Korea I guess but at least with that conflict you know what each side wants
