This episode is really funny.

Not the most exciting episode, but I remember it for Majel Barrett's resilience and Lwaxana's bond with Alexander. She was grateful for someone who didn't simply tolerate but appreciated her presence, while he relished in the motherly attention she imparted. Both connecting over irreplaceable loss - a husband no man could ever compare to, and a mother gone too soon.

That scene about being alone and compromising to fill the emptiness was especially heavy. Knowing that it was with the heartache of missing her husband - Ian for Lwaxana, and Gene (who had died just the year before) for Majel. That close up with all the pain laid bare on Majel's face made the scene excruciatingly real. Lwaxana in her own odd way taught the child that we sometimes need to make compromises for love, while Alexander reminded her to not compromise self in favour of love.

Lwaxana getting so attached to the kid makes me uncomfortable, but the episode is fine otherwise.

Lwaxana is back and that means a bit of fun and diversion. I liked the conversation between her and Deanna about marriage with the role reversal of the daughter lecturing the mother. And I felt sympathy for Lwaxana when she stated the reasons behind her marriage later on. There is also a little bit in here about the joy of life while Worf and Deanna try to teach Alexander the value of responsibilities. I don't think they succeded. That other story about the metal eating organism is but an afterthought.
But did they add extra hair to Troi at the wedding? I know it's a weird thing to ask but that's the kind of thing you notice when you watch an episode for the umpteenth time. Looked great, though.

An unfortunate embarrassment for all involved. I do like seeing how Worf is handling being a parent, but not when the script is as awful as this. It's got a lot of humour, but that doesn't save it.
