The show begins in an old movie theatre in Melbourne's Albert Park. Two couples, both die hard fans of the show, compete to become contestants. They're each given $10,000 and 24 hours to create a down town New York loft style apartment.
Two more teams of fans go head to head in a 24-hour challenge. The winners will be the second and final team of fans to move into The Block.
Faves Brad and Dale and Alyssa and Lysandra team up against our new comers in a styling challenge to decide who lives where on The Block. They must re-create a high end designer living room on a limited budget.
Judges Neale Whitaker and Darren Palmer decide on the winners of the challenge. They are given first and second choice of apartments as well as a bonus $5000 cash to kick start their renovations.
It's the first official day on The Block and the teams discover that over the next 10 weeks they each need to create a three storey, three bedroom, three bathroom luxury apartment.
Work continues on the week one rooms and Keith gives the teams a near impossible 24 hour deadline. The contestants quickly realise they need to keep the big picture in mind and some go shopping for their kitchens.

Tonight the contestants complete another bedroom and the faves discover they've got some strong competition. Steve and Chantelle's risky parquetry wall surprises the judges. The winning team is thrilled to receive $10,000.
