For the all new season of Food Network Star, Bobby, Giada and Alton are competing head to head to find the network's next star. They each scoured the country, looking at thousands of applicants and selected a group to come audition live for them. This process decides who gets to compete to become the next Food Network Star.
Star Salvation is a six-week competition, hosted by Alex Guarnaschelli and Eddie Jackson, that allows eliminated contestants from Food Network Star to prove their worth and for one last chance to re-enter the competition.
The final three finalists become four again when a previously eliminated competitor re-enters the competition thanks to a win on FoodNetwork.com's Star Salvation. With the help of eliminated finalists to serve as sous chefs, the final four must cook for their lives to determine which three will get a chance to shoot their own pilot. Former Food Network Star winners Tregaye Fraser and Jason Smith help determine which three finalists will move on to shoot pilots directed by Food Network's Sunny Anderson, Duff Goldman and Robert Irvine.

Season 3 kicks off as the 11 finalists are introduced and presented with their first three challenges. They must create an original dish for a dinner party; decorate a wedding cake; and cater a wedding for 100 guests in six hours. A chocolate challenge is given by former NBA player Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins and last season's winner Guy Fieri. Then, the contestants must put a unique spin on stadium food and serve their creations at a New Jersey Nets game. Basketball fans choose the winner.

In the season five premiere of The Next Food Network Star, the 10 finalists are immediately thrown into their first challenge. They head to Food Network Kitchens and are greeted by the selection committee (Iron Chef Bobby Flay and Food Network executives Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson), who inform the finalists that they’ll be split into two teams and catering Food Network’s "Sweet 16" party. The teams are tasked with creating delicious dishes and serving tables packed with Food Network stars like Giada De Laurentiis, Alton Brown, Duff Goldman, Sunny Anderson and Masaharu Morimoto, and also Access Hollywood co-host Nancy O’Dell! The first finalist is then eliminated.
The nine remaining finalists receive their next challenge from Esquire's articles editor Ryan D'Agostino. They must create a recipe for the Esquire man that works for the magazine's "Recipe for Men" section. Then the finalists head to the Good Housekeeping test kitchen where they're greeted by Giada De Laurentiis and Good Housekeeping's editor-in-chief, Rosemary Ellis. The finalists are randomly assigned a holiday and must prepare a dish that represents their holiday in a new and exciting way. The challenge winner finds out he or she will be featured in Good Housekeeping's July issue, and the next finalist is eliminated.
The eight remaining finalists meet Tyler Florence who tells them they must shop for a family dinner and menu-plan while presenting money-saving tips to camera. The next day, the finalists head to the Hamptons to visit Ina Garten where they’ll be working in teams to plan menus and create a lavish meal for Ina and her friends. The next finalist is eliminated.
Bobby Flay tests the remaining seven finalists by having them put their culinary point of view on a classic American dish – the burger! The finalists must whip up their ideal burger while sharing personal stories and their connections to their dish. The best burger lands a place on the menu of Bobby's new restaurant venture Bobby's Burger Palace. Then, Guy Fieri and USA WEEKEND Magazine associate editor, TJ Walter, surprise the finalists on the Intrepid Sea, Air Space Museum, challenging each of them to create a dish using a basket of international ingredients for a group of returning American soldiers. The winner learns that his or her recipe will be featured on the July 3-5th cover of USA WEEKEND Magazine, and another finalist is eliminated.
In the spirit of her cooking and kids charity, Yum-o!, Food Network star Rachael Ray challenges the remaining six finalists to create kid-friendly dishes and convince a group of children to experiment with food they’ve never tried before. Then, the finalists must transform typical kid fare into gourmet dishes for adults and work in teams to demo their fancy upgrades on Rachael Ray!
The remaining four finalists pack their bags and prepare to head to Miami for their next challenge. Before taking off with JetBlue, they meet Ted Allen and OTG Concept Chef Michael Coury and learn their next challenge: create a dish for one of OTG Management’s restaurants at JetBlue’s Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. After presenting their dishes, the finalists fly to Miami and discover they’ll be catering a swanky party at the fabulous Nikki Beach nightclub. The JetBlue challenge winner assigns roles for each finalist, and the team scrambles to pull off an extraordinary party! The next finalist is eliminated.
In a special two hour premiere episode of The Next Food Network Star, twelve hopefuls arrive in Los Angeles to compete for the ultimate dream job: To host their own show on The Food Network. The competition starts right away as they face their first on-camera test: preparing a meal that best represents who they are. Next, the finalists are taken to Paramount Studios where an A-list Hollywood Director films 30-second promos for the show that each finalist wants to host. Finally, the finalists must each create a Power Lunch for LA's biggest celebrity Chef, Wolfgang Puck.
The remaining eleven finalists learn how hard it is to perform an assembly line demo in only eleven minutes. Then, special guest star Duff Goldman from "Ace of Cakes" presents their next challenge: Duff is throwing a party for 100 of his closest friends on the Santa Monica Pier. The finalists must each take a classic carnival sweet and transform it into a savory party bite for the guest of honor and all of his friends.
Ten remaining finalists get a crash course in the Hollywood way of life. First they have to present a dish to camera, inspired by a classic film genre. Next they strut the red carpet at an after-party for Grammy Award-winner Colbie Caillat. The twist: They also have to cater the event in teams of two.
The heat turns up on the remaining nine finalists. Pepper Master Bobby Flay has the group make a mad dash to choose a pepper to cook with — the winner's dish is put on the menu of Bobby's famous restaurant, Mesa Grill. Next, Bobby introduces three culinary legends who challenge the finalists to re-invent the best thing they ever ate.
In a super-sized episode, the remaining eight finalists have to create their very own food product in a jar. The twist: instead of presenting the product to camera, they must do a live demo in front of a crowd of hundreds. Then, special guest Paula Deen reveals four lunch trucks, and challenges the finalists (in teams of two) to create and operate their very own lunch-truck business at Venice Beach.
The seven remaining finalists must prove that they have another essential trait for a Food Network star: the ability to entertain. Special guest Ted Allen assigns each finalist a party theme "in a basket." The finalists much create a party bite, and give an entertaining tip to camera. Next, the finalists head to Frank Sinatra's estate in Palm Springs where they must serve a retro dish for a table of special guests.
A busy home cook herself, last year's winner, Melissa D'Arabian, drops by to task the finalists to relate to the busy home cook by making "dinner with breakfast" using cereal. Then they must relate to hardcore foodies when they team together to create an underground supper club, the members of which count among the culinary elite. Nine hopefuls remain, and they're tested on how well they can handle themselves under pressure. First, they film their own promotional videos with no help from their producers. Then, a panel of journalists grills each of them, asking tough questions about their techniques, their personal backgrounds and the show they want to bring to the Food Network.

In the Mentor Challenge, the Finalists are tasked with creating and presenting an enticing pizza with kicked-up flavors for Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, and guest judges Duff Goldman and Darin Harris, CEO of CiCi's Pizza. In the Star Challenge, Bobby and guest David Alan Grier randomly assign each Finalist several criteria for their dishes, which they'll present in a demo for a crowd filled with food and comedy fans. Susie Fogelson and Bob Tuschman assist Giada and Bobby in eliminating the least successful Finalist.
In their first challenge, the Finalists create and present a portable version of their favorite brunch dish to Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay. Then, guest judge Richard Blais pairs the Finalists into teams, who create a social media promo video for their own food trucks. These videos will be shown to food truck enthusiasts, who will get food from the truck they most want to taste.
With a focus on their lifestyle brands, the Finalists first create and present a dish that a home cook can prepare in 30 to 45 minutes. Then, they cook and film a video for a dish that reflects a holiday through their culinary point of view. Damaris Phillips serves as guest director for their video presentations, and then joins Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, Susie Fogelson and Bob Tuschman at the judging table.
In this week's challenges, the Finalists learn that there are no second takes in live TV. After cooking and demoing a dish based on an assigned theme, the Finalists cook a dish and host their own segment of a live ensemble show. The Kitchen's Jeff Mauro and Katie Lee assist Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay in determining which Finalist had the worst performance.
The winner of Star Salvation rejoins the competition, and the remaining four Finalists each choose a sous chef from the eliminated contestants to help them cook the best dish of their lives. Following their presentations, Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, Susie Fogelson and Bob Tuschman will determine which three Finalists will get to film pilots directed by special guest Rachael Ray.

After the screening, the Selection Committee deliberates, and Brooke Johnson, president of Food Network, announces the winner of Food Network Star!

Then, Rev Run challenges the finalists to mash up two different cooking styles into one dish and compete in the food world equivalent of a rap battle! In a surprise twist, two finalists are sent packing.
The finalists pair up to shoot a promo for their version of a show called "Family Road Trip!" Whether their destination is camping, the state fair or even Grandma's house, their promo and dishes had better impress Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay and the guest judges, Food Network Magazine's Editor-in-Chief Maile Carpenter and actress Ali Larter!
First, the finalists try their hand at delivering a trendy remote food report for Entertainment Tonight hosts Kevin Frazier and Nancy O'Dell. Then, as the finalists take over the kitchen in an upscale hotel and prepare a special tableside dining experience, they are tested on how well they can handle curveballs thrown at them by YouTube sensation Hannah Hart and Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Chef Robert Irvine shows his love of NASCAR and the inevitable tailgating that comes along with it as he challenges the finalists to create a dish worthy of a world-class tailgate party! Then, Robert and fellow guest judge Katie Lee help Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay decide who is sent home.
Duff Goldman joins Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay as the finalists take their culinary prowess to new levels with "edible art." Then, Rhett and Link, hosts of the wildly popular YouTube channel "Good Mythical Morning," challenge the finalists to take a spin as a guest on their show. Each finalist participates in their very own "Will It?" segment, pairing unlikely ingredients and asking questions like "Will It Jell-O?" and "Will It Cookie?"
First, special guest judge Lorraine Pascale helps Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay determine the best dish made from frozen foods. Then, it's time for one of the most festive trends -- a tiki party! In teams of three, the finalists create an island-inspired menu, then take the stage for a team food demo to a crowd of party-goers. Anne Burrell joins as guest judge to help pick the best tiki team.
The finalists join forces to create a five-course meal composed of nothing but indulgent, over-the-top, guilty pleasure dishes. Each finalist gives a presentation of their course, describing their unique take on the dish and all its guilty glory to Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, and guest judges Alex Guarnaschelli and Trisha Yearwood.
For the next challenge, the finalists are each assigned a different holiday party -- St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mardi Gras, New Year's Eve, or Easter -- and take turns planning and hosting their own holiday special. Tia Mowry and Donal Skehan, hosts of Food Network Star Kids, are on hand to help Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay taste the food and judge the holiday specials.
It's down to three finalists, but there's a surprise in store when an eliminated contestant reenters the competition after winning Star Salvation on FoodNetwork.com. The final four then battle it out with former finalists helping as their sous chefs. Food Network Star winner Aarti Sequeria joins to help select the final three to shoot pilots, which they then film with help from another winner: Guy Fieri!

Upon their arrival, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay greet them with some troubling news: they have to pass one more big audition before they will officially be considered finalists. But that’s not all, there is one more person joining the competition, and that’s the winner of Food Network Star: Comeback Kitchen. Special guests Robert Irvine and Monti Carlo help Giada and Bobby decide who will be the first competitor sent home.
The finalists host a party celebrating Disney's live-action feature Beauty and the Beast. The finalists are divided into three teams, with each team drawing inspiration from one of the iconic rooms of the castle to decorate a serving station and cook up a dish before presenting to a ballroom full of party guests. Special guest Sandra Lee attends the event with Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay to help pick a winning team, then two finalists from the losing team are sent home.
The ten remaining finalists divide into two teams, with each team creating a five-course menu for an experiential restaurant. Diners will experience a completely different environment for each course, such as an appetizer in the jungle and a main course in the desert. Each finalist must also make a video menu describing their dish for the diners, who will select which one they want to taste. Special guest Tyler Florence dines with Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay and helps decide which finalist is sent home.
The remaining finalists are divided into teams and sent into the wilderness. When they arrive at a campsite, they must use whatever camping food is in the back of their cars to create a "glamping" meal. Each team will present their dishes to Giada De Laurentiis, along with guests Melissa d'Arabian and Andrew Zimmern, who will decide which finalist successfully elevated camping food to glamping dishes and gave the best tips for working with wilderness fare.
First, the finalists pair up and take on a typical shopping budget problem while creating an Instagram Story about their shopping trip, with special guest Hannah Hart helping Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay judge their efforts. It's halfway through the competition, so it's time for midterms! Each of the remaining seven finalists must make their best potato dish and overcome the one thing in the competition that has been holding them back. Then it's time to celebrate summer with Tiffani Thiessen, who helps Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay judge the finalists' efforts as they each host a summer social gathering for a crowd of people in a park.
The finalists take on the hit Food Network show, Beat Bobby Flay! In the first round of cooking, the finalists go head-to-head to determine who will take on the master himself, Bobby Flay, in round two. Anyone who can beat Bobby is safe from elimination, but those who are not up to the challenge may lose their spot in the competition. Special guest Anne Burrell helps determine which finalist will not be moving on.
The finalists must try their hand at something big, taking their inspiration from Josh Denny and his hit Food Network show, Ginormous Food. Then, it's time for the up-to-the-minute trend of live cooking while streaming on social media. Each finalist streams their take on a start-to-finish 15-minute weeknight meal while viewers cook along. Surprise guest Alex Guarnaschelli provides feedback on the finalists' performances as Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay send one more finalist on their way.
The four remaining finalists try their hand at reporting live on location by visiting popular food trucks while Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay and special guest Sabin Lomac watch from the studio. Then, it's time for each finalist to partake in their own segment of a special called "Up Your Game (Day)," performing a demo of a special game-day dish while also tackling surprises along the way. ESPN's Jemele Hill and special guest Jaymee Sire watch the special with Bobby and Giada to help decide which finalist goes down in defeat.
The three remaining finalists are in for a shock when they learn that a previously eliminated finalist is reentering the competition after winning Star Salvation. With the help of former finalists, the last four competitors must cook the dish of their lives for the privilege of making a pilot. Former Food Network Star winner Eddie Jackson is back to help select the three finalists, who then shoot pilots directed by none other than Guy Fieri!

The remaining finalists think they’re cooking solo at an exclusive private event for foodies and tastemakers, but en route to their destination, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay reveal a twist — they’ll be cooking and presenting in teams. When they arrive, each team discovers their event theme, ingredients and decor in the trunk of their vehicle. They must pull together an international-themed party and team demo for the crowd, which includes Bobby, Giada and guest judge Tyler Florence, with one finalist eliminated at the end of the day.
The tables are turned on the contestants when they learn they must judge themselves; People magazine editor-in-chief Jess Cagle splits the finalists into two teams to judge and evaluate mentors Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis on their own dishes.
The six finalists whip up dishes inspired by characters from the movie "Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation"; special guest Fran Drescher, who voices the character Eunice in the film, joins Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay at the judging table.

Each finalist must make a “share-worthy” dish live on Food Network’s Facebook page, and their demo is put to the test when special guest Anne Burrell is revealed as the on-camera talent. The finalists have to act as producers, guiding Anne through the demo using a wireless earpiece. The pressure continues to escalate when each finalist hosts their own live “in the kitchen” show with a special guest who’s familiar with the format … Food Network’s Ree Drummond! Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay decide which finalists best handle these pressure-packed challenges and earn a spot in the final three.
