Lisa remarking at the presence of three generation of Simpsons, only for Bart to retort “What a nightmarish concept” feels true both to the characters and the humor of the eventual series. Likewise, the inter-generational progression of chiding and shoves seems about right for the show’s well-observed takes on fractured family life.
Lastly, the heartwarming ending whether everyone hugs and forgives, only for it to be humorously undercut by a member of the family spoiling the moment really clicks with the show’s M.O. in full episodes. Overall, this feels more like an embryonic version of the show and family dynamic we would come to know and love than most other shorts.
