[9/10] This is another one of the rare Simpsons shorts that feels like it’s of a piece with the tone and approach of the full T.V. series. It’s not just the first appearance of Itchy and Scratchy or the first (I think?) time when Homer strangles Bart (plus a quasi-cameo from Binky of Life Is Hell as Bart’s hand-puppet). It’s the T.V. parody with Bart doing a late night T.V. show riff, the homespun silliness of him trying to entertain his sisters with his showmanship, and Homer’s general grumpiness over his son’s antics. One of the few shorts that feels like a preview of the T.V. show to come!
