YESSSS! The classic start sequence is BACK
Isn't this Mein Kampf in German?
I'm hoping this ep was strictly setup and they'll get right into it next one, because I hate to say -- it was kind of hokey. It's a tall order to make six measly episodes count after all these years! Pretty funny how Tad O'Malley sounds so ridiculous spouting the same conspiracy theories as Mulder does, when Mulder sounds downright reasonable most of the time.
I hope they're not planning on turning Mulder's apparent (manic?) depression into some sort of punchline, because that would be gross and disrespectful.
Gillian Anderson looks ill, David Duchovny looks as you'd expect him to at his age, but man, that's a shame even so... really only Mitch Pileggi has aged well -- somehow he is just as sexy to me as he ever was.
Some Rotten Tomatoes reviews claim Chris Carter forgot how to do the X-Files right. While that might have been the case with I Want to Believe. It's not the case with this episode.
The aliens, cover-ups and yes Mulder and Scully are back. In the last movie Scully didn't even work with Mulder. This show is what fans been wanting.
The biggest conspiracy uncovered is that critics know shit. This is the X-Files.
I can´t wait for this...
The brutal "Info dump" in 3/4 of the episode just ruined everything for me. Character s are trying to justify their chain of thoughts/opinion by just rapidly spilling out tons and tons of facts that 1. even if you know what they are referring to you wont be able to comprehend it at the speed of talking 2. if you don't know what they are talking about, or it has no significance, it is just plain stupid, gets you out of the story and any justification for the series to continue.
Gotta say this show is starting off right. I already can't wait to see what'll happen next.
Loveeeeeeed it. Can't wait for the next one.. Like it never left. They should extend this season already!
While I overall enjoyed the episode due to the familiar faces and the phenomenal acting by Gillian and David and the rest of the actors/actresses, it was a bit of a disaster as it was just an information overload. I understand they are having to pack a lot of mythology in fewer episodes considering this is a shorter season and they themselves don't know if they will return after this one, but I had to do lot of pausing and rewinding. Hopefully the rest comes at a much slower pace.
From the awful and lazy overlong opening exposition dump shoddily read by a bored Duchovny with a stuffy nose… a terrible monologue that ignores much of the series and, yet again, retcons it's own history… I knew I was in for a potentially unpleasant slog.
What a cringe fest. You might imagine the show wouldn’t have been brought back unless they had something concrete and golden, that had been polished until it shined like a diamond. Well, sadly, you’d be imagining wrong. This is terrible.
The only conspiracy regarding The X-Files is finding out who allowed Carter to write or make decisions… again. What a disrespectful insult to the characters… at least it’s consistent with the past show. This is bad, folks. It adds nothing, but continues to detract.
According to this episode, all of The X-Files that came before it was a McGuffin. It was all fake. The alien rebellion. All the things that happened that the characters here didn't even witness - around the world. Oh, and everything the characters actually experienced. No. Didn't happen. Fake news.
It’s worse than I’m describing. Much worse. How disheartening. I don't know if I can make it across the finish line.
Hearing the classic theme put a huge grin on my face.
Why would you split Mulder and Scully up? In the finale of the show they were together, and in love, and they had each other, after all they had been through and losing their son, they at least had each other. Even in the movie 6 years later they were still together.
Stupid.
Why would you make Scully and that right-wing conspiracy guy seem to have a former relationship? No, you don't do that. It's disrespectful to the characters and the relationship of Mulder and Scully. It's just a dumb idea, even if the guy was only flirting with her, there's no need.
Stupid.
Why would Mulder doubt Skinner and ask him who he's working for?
Stupid.
Skinner is STILL an assistant director? After 24 years???
Why would the general guy shoot the alien immediately instead of at least capturing it?
Stupid.
We have never seen those circular marks on the stomach as a sign of alien abduction in the entire show.
The episode was okay. It doesn't feel like a continuation of the show, but more it's own thing. Which makes sense as a show 14 years after the original ended.
Some of the ideas are interesting, but it feels too much conspiratorial. The takeover of america by the elites. Originally that wasn't supposed to happen until the alien invasion, and then syndicate was killed and then the aliens started infiltrating top levels of government and they may or may not have been part of making super soldiers, i can't remember. Maybe the aliens do plan to take over america in the way they're saying before the official recolonization, or to create as much chaos as they can as a distraction.
But it feels too conspiratorial in the sense the rank and file people wouldn't go along with any of this. People may counter point in regards to certain events, but it's a much different scenario to this and it just wouldn't happen in america.
And the reasoning to chalk up a lot of previous events or the show events as syndicate only because of the technology they salvaged from aliens is too conspiratorial. I don't like that, unless it's just another cover. And i don't like Mulder buying into it either, not with all he's experienced with alien phenomena.
Bringing back cancer man is one of the most ridiculous and nonsensical decisions in television history. We saw him literally disintegrate into a skeleton, but yes, Chris Carter thought he could somehow still be alive.
Stupid.
So, no messing around. The conspiracy gloves are completely off in this rebirth of the series. In fact, Scully is cynical of Mulder's desire to work with talk show super-host, Tad O'Malley, who's pursuing every conspiracy possible. It'll be interesting to see what Scully does after her statement at the conclusion of this episode.
Secondary characters in this episode: Tad O'Malley, Sveta, Cigarette-Smoking Man
I was not expecting Jeff Winger.
Wow, the old opening again <3
I like how they are reopening the story, and the smoking man is back XD
The feels, dem feels! They actually used the intro from the first seven seasons without any change, amazing. The episode starts off a little rough with Mulder and Sully interacting very stiffly, almost like they don't know how to be around under each other. Not sure if that is bad acting or intentional. The story starts off alright so we will see what this season brings us.
It is not so dark, I do strange voices, but Mulder and Scully are back
Las mentiras son muy grandes... La verdad debe ser irrefutable.
¿Y si todo lo que nos han hecho creer es una mentira?
It is great to once again see the "I want to believe" poster.
Amazing return to the X-Files! It's like they managed to cram in an entire season of Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura, mixed with some InfoWars, and still kept the X-Files flavour. Looking forward to the rest of the seaon!
Finally a show that feels real!
not sure if that's synopsis or the whole plot

This is an okay return of the show that has been loved by many fans around the world. I noticed that the current alien myth-arc will definitely get political with the references to the government spying on us and shit.
I have a couple of complaints, one especially at the ending. They brought Smoking Cigarette Man back from the dead. They better have a good explanation why he is not dead anymore because I felt very insulted watching him alive again when we saw him dead, burnt alive, on-screen in the finale.
The good parts are that I am relived that this episode is already better than the awful second movie. But that isn't saying much to be honest. Also, I am glad we get to see Mulder and Scully again. They're the ones that make the show.
I am rating this a 7/10 because while it's entertaining, this episode is a bit silly and I fear the show might complicate their already hard to understand mythology. I hope the rest of the revival is better than this. We'll have to wait and see.
