The series finale features Mulder chasing William, while other baddies chase Mulder. Then Scully starts chasing William. Later, the Cigarette-Smoking Man joins in the chase. There's lots of chasing and for me, lots of eye rolling, squirming on my couch, and watching the progress bar on my TV wondering why after 11 seasons, I'm still not sure what the Hell is going on.
The global contagion story line seemed to have been entirely forgotten about, a massive story hole if there ever was one. A lot of secondary characters get knocked off in this, and I suppose that's for shock value. Somehow, Scully manages to easily brush off that William ever existed because she's pregnant with Mulder's baby.
This is really bad. It wraps up the mythology half of the series appropriately because it was always a mess, but it pays a total disservice to the fun, anthology, "monster-of-the-week" episodes that made the series great.
Secondary characters in this episode: CSM, Tad O'Malley, Kersh, Reyes, William
One of the worst episode in all saga.
I started watching the x files during lockdown, I’ve just finished the final episode…maybe?! Who knows!
From season 9 onwards some episodes were tough to watch, it dropped off a bit, but what am I going to watch now?!?
First I need to Google some stuff though because I have lots of questions!
It could have been worse
Lame lame lame ass finale. Pathetic.
Mr Carter butchered every episode he directed and or wrote this season. If it wasnt for his drivel it would be pretty solid season. This felt like an amateur hour, unintentional parody.
Here I have just watched the last episode, and I can say that I have mixed feelings. Of course I'm a big fan of the series, and I will always be, but I do not like when there are so many questions left unanswered. I thought that the whole point of the 10th and 11th season was to close the circle and get a clear picture. Unfortunately, this did not happen ... but regardless of everything, I will make an end in my mind as I wish, that is the only way to conclude, because there will be no season 13.
This was a great ride, and I'm gonna miss it a lot.
I think this season was very weak! It started with erasing what happened at the end of season 10 -Which was awesome btw- by just making it like a vision!!!
I have expected a great f*****n' ending for season 11 as they literally destroyed what happened in the last season, but here we are, a very weak ending with some rumors about both Mulder and Scully leaving the show.
What are we supposed to do now? We didn't have any closure at all! It seems like season 10 and 11 were a waste and had nothing to add at all! Then why the f**k they ever produced them?!
However, I am still an X Files fan, but just please stop destroying the show!! don't produce any new season unless it will really add something to the story!
I really enjoyed both seasons 10 and 11 especially the goofy episodes they were hilarious like the old days XD So, overall, I am happy that I watched these two seasons, I am just kinda disappointed at the end :)
The smoking man... I still for some reason feel like he survived. That guy is harder to kill than a radioactive cock roach. I hope this isn’t how the series end. What about the plague?
This wasn't a finale, this wasn't even a full episode.
What an unsatisfying conclusion. As far as season finales go, this one felt very low stakes. The larger conspiracy wasn't really in the scope, it was more just Mulder and Scully trying to complete one task - find William (to protect him from some vague threat?). I thought they would at least bring out the plague again to properly conclude that whole storyline, but I guess not. And even if season 12 were to happen, they really can't repeat this whole "find William" bit all over again just to wrap-up a dumb one-off plotline. If they'd done that from the start, maybe this episode would have been better.
There was so little substance to this episode, instead it was just characters making faces while thinking or reacting. The writing quite poor, and in typical Chris Carter fashion we got some "shocking" character deaths (how many times as the Smoking Man "died" again?).
I hope that this is the end of The X-Files with Chris Carter in charge. This and season 10 were not up to par with the original series, even in its later days - and that's saying something. I'd be more open to the show continuing under Glen and Darin Morgan. They seem to have a better grasp on the show, at least for the monster of the week aspects.
In a season and perhaps series finale written and directed by series creator Chris Carter, this one starts out with almost five minutes of "previously on" stuff followed by a lot of running around chasing people; driving around chasing people; cryptic and/or vague statements being made; incomplete sentences being uttered; people talking past each other; awkward and poorly blocked scenes; too many close-ups of Duchovny looking constipated and confused; and too many close-ups of a breathy Anderson really showing that her cosmetic work has her approaching the uncanny valley from the human side of the equation. In the end, this one had a few interesting moments that were reminiscent of the show in its prime, but also a lot of derivative (of itself) stuff and a lot of stuff that just seemed amateurish.
So many years waiting for this... So many dead people! Mulder shooting like crazy! Is this The End? Is this Real Life?
Of course this show can continue without Scully. Just have her die in labor. With Mullder taking on a new partner and finding more answers. William is still out there and the plague is still coming. William is the key to stopping it. Wishful thinking I know.
I think this maybe wasn't the ending they had in mind for the show when they started S10. But what could they do ? With Gillian leaving that's it - at least for me that is because I can say with certainty that this was the last x-files I ever watched. I have to stay with my comment on the previous episode - in retrospect I wished those two season never happened. Not a lot of great things to be remembered.
Well, It seems Chris Carter has completely run out of NEW ideas. This wasn't bad, it also wasn't good. People getting killed or not, just the same old crap!!! Not that old eps were crap.. its just the same!!!!
While by far the best of the My Struggle episodes and a better ending than I expected. There's still the virus and did Skinner actually die ? Nice that Scully will finally have Mulder's baby though.
As well as the smoking man finally dead. Still if this was the last episode ever. It was at least better than the original series finale. There's still the loose ends I mentioned.
Christ Carter isn’t very good at ending this show with a proper ending.
⊗ For so long, I believed. With every end, a new beginning. Bravo @TheXFiles and thank you for this mind-blowing finale!
Let's hope this has a fitting ending since it will be the last one ever. Knowing Chris Carter, probably not :(.

At the beginning they show us more of the backstory of Jackson Van Der Kamp, and make his character worse.
Unlikeable criminal asshole who caused severe injuries, making people disabled and deaths in car crashes. Murderer.
Then cheated on his girlfriends. Then almost had them killed.
Why should we care about this character at all.
Stupid, stupid, stupid writing.
Then we see a scene that happens later in the episode, with cancer man seeming to hold a gun to Mulder and threatening to kill hm Showing it early on makes us know what's going to somewhat happen later, leaving less surprise and enjoyment for the viewer.
Why is Kirsch initially threatening to shut down the x files over something not even that bad, and when we've seen he's been an ally in the past.
Boring episode with a lot of boring chases.
No big developments concerning the virus or the alien invasion, both of which are supposed to be very important, yet the virus is only tangentially talked about and nothing substantial happened with it.
Mulder chasing after Jason for half he episode is just utterly boring, especially for the final episode of The X-Files. And Scully does nothing for most of the episode either.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
There's a big deal about William's father, but i don't care about that disgusting plot point.
Nice to see Mulder hugging Jackson.
Skinner killing Monica is terrible.
I don't believe cancer man would have really shot Mulder, he would have wounded him, and we knew anyway that the guy cancer man shot was William.
Why did Mulder not shoot him in the head so we would be sure he was dead? He shot him a few times in the stomach and then pushed him in the water. So now the annoying possibility Cancer Man might still be alive is floated once again. Though, if he survived a missile blast which disintegrated his entire being, then i'm sure he can survive anything.
Stupid.
"What am i now if i'm not a father?" Out of character line for Mulder, as he was only a father for a very short time when William was a baby and then never again. He would never say this line.
So then you end the season and possibly the ENTIRE SHOW with Mulder and Scully believing their son was just shot dead.
Stupid.
Well actually, not really, because it gets worse. Scully rationalizes William wasn't really her son, but he was just an experiment with probably no parents really, or something, he was just cancer man's son alone and Scully only carried him, she wasn't really his mother, or something.
Stupid.
Then right after that, Scully announces she's pregnant. At 50. As unrealistic as it is, i actually like it. It feels like a small act of apology from Chris Carter after all he's done, and i'll take it. There are still multiple unresolved plot threads that will probably never be resolved now, annoyingly. But at least Mulder and Scully can basically retire and raise their kid in peace.
