Abbuzze! Der Badesalz-Film

Even after 24 years still one of the most disturbing German comedy films by the terrific "Badesalz" Comedian. Super society satire of the 90 years that doesn’t mince words.

Admittedly very idiosyncratic humor that is not for everyone, nevertheless absolute cult status of the German cinema.

1917

1917 manages without a single visible cut (apart from a lengthy blackout of one of the figures)

The shooting in long, continuous shots, in which the lens is attached to the two soldiers, required an immense logistical effort.
Huge sets were specially built so that the camera could traverse them in long scenes without interruption.

From a purely technical point of view, this is without question a breathtaking masterpiece.

But that's exactly where the dog is buried.
Because you have to like these long tracking shots.
There are many "loooong" scenes with little text or music that seem like eternity, but on the other hand also build up a certain arc of tension.

Apart from the rather thin and logic-free story (why not take a pilot who delivers the message, would you go faster than two foot soldiers who trailed through the battlefield all day?), You should definitely watch the film. (Best if it is technically feasible in UHD)

The Boys: Season 2

Still recommendable even after the second season .... But the sequel does not come close to the grandioseness of the outstanding first season. The bar was probably too high to be able to exceed it, and that doesn't change the explosion of numerous heads!
Nevertheless I'm looking forward to another third season.

Fist of Jesus

Be sure to take these 15 minutes of the finest splatter fun à la "Premutos - The Fallen Angel"

Everything in it for 15 minutes that makes a weird splatter film.

Cult suspect

Truth Seekers

A recommendable series for binge watching, as the length per episode is 25 minutes, and Nick Frost and especially Malcolm McDowell do a great job. Good gags, short and sweet, and an entertaining storyline that is fun to the end.

Unhinged

Good psychological thriller with violent scenes and a deeply evil Russel Crowe who plays his role so grandiose that it is really scary. (I'll never honk at anyone again)

The only thing that bothered me about the film are the logic errors that occur too often. (Russel "the little fat one" Crowe with a good 120 kilos is out of a collided overturned vehicle faster than The Flash)

With that hidden, the film is definitely worth it for a good evening at the cinema.

The Current War

A good film about an interesting historical story, but with too little background information.

7500

A good solid thriller with no frills, clearly to the point. And the whole thing was shot exclusively in the cockpit with the exception of a few scenes, this effect also creates a claustrophobic intimate play. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as always, very good.

So if you want to watch a short, crisp thriller, here it is.

Blood Fest

What should you expect from a splatter film?

Nothing at all ... except blood and a dull story.

But the film does that relatively well.

Story totally fetched, dialogues conditionally funny and reasonably good splatter.

Bloodline

Good solid film with Sean William Scott in a completely different role, sometimes not as a joker "The Stifmeister" but rather "Dexter", which he does great.

And the film is very reminiscent of this series, which is nothing bad, but nothing new either.

In any case, good entertainment for the entire evening.

Black Box

Anyone who likes the Netflix hit series "Black Mirror" is in very good hands with this film. Exciting story, a not so new plot but good unexpected twists and turns.

Donnie Darko

Even after 20 years it is still a very good film!

"The same procedure as every year!"

Feels like I've been watching the same Liam Neeson movie for the past 10 years

Sneaky Pete

With one of the best series in recent years! Accordingly, I can't quite understand why Amazon is discontinuing this after the third season.

The first season was outstanding, a mix of "Ocean's Eleven" and "Breaking Bad". The second and third seasons were unfortunately not that good in terms of suspense, but continued the great story (everything worked out for you, no logic gaps and every now and then a brilliant twist).

Space Force

A good start to a satire on the current US political line ruled by morons.

I watched the first season completely in a row, and I have to say that it was a bit bored at times.
The best episode was the second with the space monkey, terrific.

Unfortunately the kind of humor was not continued consistently.
Still a recommendable series, especially because of the entertaining 35 minutes per episode.

The Babysitter

Netflix actually managed to make an even better sequel from a good first part.
Great splatter fun that doesn't take itself seriously and a questionable 16 release, since the death scene is already depicted quite crude.

I hope that Netflix has the courage to finish the trilogy and produce a third part.

The Devil All the Time

A film that captivates and surprises atmospherically (despite the foreseeable sequences) and shows all possible human abysses and their consequences.

With a running time of 138 minutes, it is certainly a little too long, but the dramaturgy, staging and presentation in The Devil All the Time are simply great and worth recommending.

American Horror Story: Season 9

After nine seasons still one of the best anthology series on the market. Meanwhile away from the classic horror and with the current season towards the nasty slasher. Skillfully and with great attention to detail, the cult films of the 80s (Halloween, Friday the 13th) picked up. It was fun again this time as "Binge Watching"

Ratched

Good series from the creators of the series "American Horror Story", which is strongly influenced by their style and style. Based on the terrific film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" with Jack Nicholson from 1975, this is the prehistory of head nurse Mildred Ratched. Excellent actors, most of whom have also been taken from the series "AHS". And a heavy dose of violence and madness, looking forward to the second season.

When They See Us

Great cinema, coming to terms with the biggest judicial scandal in New York to date.

Excellent acting and a symbol of the still pointless police violence against the black population as well as the completely broken justice system of America.

The Midnight Sky

Well, nothing half and nothing whole.
An aging George Clooney who looks pretty broken up and has not fully worked out his role or brought it over. The twist at the end with his daughter was clear to me from about halfway through the film, so some scenes have become illogical or incomprehensible. What has been staged quite well are the outdoor shots in space, as well as the one scene with the blood in weightlessness. You can watch it, but otherwise not expect too much and it is far from being a science fiction highlight or classic.

Sightless

Well worth seeing thriller with some good shock moments and a pervid twist at the end.

Definitely recommended for a good movie night.

All My Friends Are Dead

Not recommendable! The story is old-fashioned and the film tries with all its might to be funny, which doesn't work. You'd rather have a look at "Why don't you just die" and "VFW" on Amazon. Or at "Netflix" The Babysitter 1 & 2.

The golden rule of the slasher film: a few tits, a few murders, and stoned stoners sitting around somewhere doesn't work for every film.

White Boy Rick

The best stories are still written by real life !!

As the youngest spy to date for the FBI, he rose with their help to become a respected drug dealer in Detroit at the age of 15. At 17, a man caught him with 8 kilos of cocaine, which at the time earned him a life sentence without parole.

The FBI denied any cooperation with a minor. In July 2020, after 30 years in prison, he was released for good conduct, making him the longest incarcerated nonviolent drug dealer in the history of the state of Florida.

Unfortunately, the film doesn't follow this incredible story by Rick Wershe Jr. fair.

As always, a great portrayal by Matthew McConaughey.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, a lot of the story remains open or not explained in detail, which is a shame.

Nevertheless, the film is recommendable for a good evening.

Escape Room

Finally a film that I can recommend to others.

Very good tension build-up, grandiose backdrops and a few nice ideas make the film worth seeing.

The story is nothing new, as it has been filmed umpteen times in films such as the "SAW" series or the "Cube" series.
But the film does that very well.

I'm already looking forward to the sequel, with the hope that it will not be expanded into a miserable franchise series such as the films mentioned above, because it feels like all films are just bad after the 2/3 part.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Even if you watch it several times, it is still one of the most spectacular and action-packed films of the 2010s and rightly won six Oscars (best set, best costumes, etc.).
An insane material battle that you really have to see several times because there are always new things to discover.
I've been hoping for a confirmation from Warner Brothers for a sequel for years.
In my opinion a seventh Oscar would have been deserved for the coolest and coolest guitarist on this planet!
A worthy remake of the cult classic film series with Mel Gibson.

Dracula

An excellent mini-series from the makers of "Sherlock". The first two episodes are well told, exciting and in no way lengthy. At the end of the second episode there is a phenomenal "cliffhanger", which from my point of view was not continued well in the third and last episode. You can tell that the creators have run out of the great ideas of the first two episodes and so unfortunately no worthy end was found for the finale. But by and large a small masterpiece, it was great fun to watch the three episodes in one go.

Safe

Anyone who likes exciting crime stories is in good hands here. Great mini-series with ex- "Dexter" actor Michael C. Hall, who does his thing brilliantly again.

Exciting until the end, everyone has their little secrets ... The direction of the end result in a whole.

Love and Monsters

Reminiscent of "Zombieland" only without zombies, but with great monsters, a good end-of-time setting and an excellent dose of self-irony.

Freaks – You're One of Us

Shame, SHAME that something is rotated.

Not even because of the now exhausted story that has now felt like it has been filmed 1000 times by Marvel, DC and Co., but rather the way it was shot.

The German film has made itself so strong in the last 10 years (e.g. Viktoria, oh boy, Der Untergang, Dark) and then something like that.

Bad acting performance (also or especially by Wotan Wilke Möhring), a predictable plot, wooden dialogues and then extremely bad CGI effects that were sometimes only hinted at.

If I'm making a superhero film then the "forces" should also be well represented.

Netflix probably thought what is written by the "Dark-Maklers" can only be good ... A huge grab in the toilet
