first one was totally slay but this is partially slayed
I think I've been watching too many Miyazaki films lately, which is why I felt a bit uncomfortable with the scenes of the little girls bathing with their father and because there is always a little girl with the skirt in his movies.
Aside from that, I felt that the girls were trying to hide their sadness throughout the film because their mother was missing from their lives. They had moved to the countryside to be closer to her, but even without her, Mei would still go outside and wait for her in the garden. I thought that Mei created the imaginary character of Totoro to keep herself occupied while waiting for her mother. She needed someone like her mother who she could cuddle with and feel comforted by when she needed it the most. I also noticed that when she didn't want to stay with her grandmother, she needed someone who felt like family, and that's where Totoro came in. He was like a member of the family to her.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but I feel like if I were a 30-40-year-old living in Japan, I could relate to it more. Nonetheless, I still interpreted the film through my own cultural lens.
Upon watching the film today, I am inclined to assert that it is a stunning musical. The relationship type portrayed in the film, akin to that of "right person, wrong time," struck a chord with me, as throughout the duration of the film, our protagonists grapple with a sense of self-identity, constantly influencing and affecting one another. While I found certain scenes to be incredibly fanciful, with the world seemingly revolving around our duo, such a portrayal is fitting for the musical genre, though it may appear humorous within the context of the screenplay. Nevertheless, I found the film to be quite enjoyable overall.
I think this short film mostly portrays Burton's childhood fascination with horror and macabre. You can say that he is mentioning little burton when he talks about him. The animation style and narration perfectly capture the eerie and otherworldly atmosphere of the story. It is a brilliant work of art that showcases Burton's unique vision and his love for dark storytelling.
Pulp Fiction is a cult classic film that has gained much critical acclaim over the years. However, the film's controversial writer-director Quentin Tarantino's remarks about race and homosexuality may have left a sour taste in some viewers' mouths. While the film passed the Bechdel test, the way in which it did so felt somewhat forced and out of place. The film's underlying messages may be difficult to fully understand, but it seems to suggest that power dynamics can constantly shift and that doing what is right can lead to salvation in this chaotic world. Despite Tarantino's remarks, the film is not bad, but it may not necessarily be a cult classic for everyone.
