You get a lot more out of the movie if you know the story going in. This could have easily been 2 movies, there was a lot of stuff that gets skimmed over very quickly or is just completely left out. But great performance from the entire cast and still worth the watch even if you don't know anything about the Von Erich's or wrestling going in.
The Dragon Prince suffers from the same fatal flaw that The Legend of Korra did, and that there are no likable characters. Outside of maybe Claudia and Amaya, who if you haven't seen the show Amaya is a deaf character who has no spoken dialog which probably works in her favor. The entire cast is either annoying, written to be overly dumb or just plan unlikable. The reason Avatar was such a success is because you cared about its characters, even the ones your suppose to hate like Azula has qualities that make her a fan favorite.
With no investment into the characters the show just drags on. If you don't care about the characters the episodes have no meaning. The audience doesn't care if these characters succeed or fail or what they will get up to next. The episodes become boring with no vested interest and you just hope they will end and you can move on to something better.
I gave it 3 seasons that's enough for me, I won't put myself through anymore.
Some of the worst acting I have ever seen from a supporting cast.
This movie sucked, period. I like Paul Rudd and will watch most of his movies. But this isn't a Paul Rudd movie it's a Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathryn Newton movie that Paul Rudd just happens to be in. The dialogue is bad, the story is boring and if I wanted to see senior citizens doing action scenes I would watch old people fall down on Youtube. The argument about the special effects being good is a moot point because there are dozens of movies that look as good as this one and with the size of the budget it should look good. Also Evangeline Lilly has aged horribly, she is 10 years younger than Paul Rudd but looks old enough to be his mom.
First season is a masterpiece, second season is fine to mediocre, and the third season is a complete waste of time. I will probably skip season 4, get out before the show really falls off a cliff.
Last season blows, both leads are super unlikable. If the episodes weren't so short I probably would have stopped watching.
The best part is when the kid cries.
Everyone of the main characters (and there is a lot) has at least one scene when they're screaming about something. Not sure who had more Tom Cruise or Julianne Moore, but I counted at least 3 separate screens each. And who every thought of making a scene where you use shaky cam well giving somebody medicine needs to be kicked in the groin. The raining frogs took whatever patience I had left.
This movie could have been so much better, the cast is great and some of the plot points have so much potential but things just never get fleshed out. It is the definition of average and it could have been great.
If you like the movie I highly recommend reading the book, it adds a lot to the story. There is quite a bit left out in the film compared to the book, I kind of wish the movie was a half hour longer so it could fit some more things in. The film is still a masterpiece.
