Wow - so far, so bad.
It seems SYFY has repurposed Awesom-O as some sort of terrible show generator - take a famous surname, add a female first name then hand over writing duties to Mr. Cuddles, the staff chimp.
Coming to a screen near you in 2017 - 'Adele Hitler' - great niece of famous A-hole battles futuristic motorcycling space commies from space for some reason, in order to something something girl power.
Came in with low expectations, and despite not being anything outstanding, the movie turned out as very enjoyable for me.
Yes, it is an imprecise take on the Arthurian Legend Since when Mordred is a mage and Arthur has an evil uncle? Is this Saruman meets Hamlet?. Yes, it is a superficial action movie. Yes, it is nothing special. However, I found that the pace of the movie was pretty spot-on, the characters were -although shallow- pretty charismatic, and the balance between fighting scenes, humor and dramatic tipping points very appropiate. The music (a mix of tribal noises, gaelic sounds and urban rhythms) was very solid and accompanied the images perfectly.
It is absolutely clear that this film will not set new standards, nor push the boundaries of a genre; but it will surely provide two hours of entertainment. Give it a shot if you're looking for an engaging fantasy action film -like Warcraft, for example-.
This show is absolutely one of the best new shows that I've watched. It's got that Canadian scifi feel to it, but the concept and its execution are fantastic and I hope they get a season 2 because I love the characters and I can't wait to see where they take this show next.
This is easily the worst season of this show. This is my favourite show, and this season betrays everything that came before it. Seasons 1-3 were absolutely fantastic pieces of television, season 4 was excellent in a different way, and season 5 was still quite good in its own way, even though it was most certainly a different show. Season 6 is a different show yet again, and it is not just because Frank is no longer a character on the show.
The writing is bad and the pacing is bad. There is no more believability like there was in seasons 1-4. At least the acting is still top-notch (that's the one saving grace the show has). At the start of the season, I felt like I was watching some sort of mystery show rather than a political drama.
Doug was the best thing about this season. I thought that Claire would have been, as she has always been arguably the best part of the show, however, this season just has her going completely out of character. There are some good flashback scenes to her childhood, and those had me intrigued, but unfortunately they were never really followed up on.
Everything that worked this season was never really picked up on.
I must say, although my review of this season is mostly negative, I do say all of this in relation to House of Cards as a whole. I believe that if I am looking at this season as a stand-alone season of television, it most certainly isn't terrible, but rather it's actually quite entertaining and enjoyable. The issue comes when you step back and realise that this okay season of television is following on from 5 of the best seasons of television ever made.
Sarah Paulson and Courtney B Vance will be up for Emmys. Great acting and somehow compelling even though we all know what happens.
Very shallow and disappointing first episode. Mediocre action, bad one-liners, total absence of suspense or originality. Was so looking forward to it.. Also the overreactive American responses of threats and supposed bad-ass-ness totally landed wrong. The intents of the characters so far are quite dumb and cliché. Bragging with the banner of which producers it came from is very misleading. This goes wrong every time; even for Spielberg, Abrahams and so many others to date.
I have to say that this is a solid series from Netflix. The chemistry between Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin is pure gold, and it's what truly shines here. Their interactions are hilarious. Nothing much happens as far as the story goes, but in this instance, that's perfectly okay. There's something to be said about just giving amazing actors such as these two guys, a loose storyline to go off.
In my humble opinion this is a very underrated movie. I really enjoyed it, but maybe because I knew what I was getting into.
The movie is slow and atmospheric but in a really good way. It's like a trip, sometimes like meditation and sometimes like a nightmare.
I would definitely recommend the movie, if you know that this is not an historic action flick.
Ridiculous plot, childlike dialogues at times, flat acting and awfully generic. If you have already seen any space movie with a monster then you have seen this. Though the movie you saw was hopefully (and probably) better than this. Stay away.
A terrible representation of the SciFi genre :-(
Hollywood Reporter gave it the first '0' rating I've ever seen from a publication: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/tv-review-dominion-712479
Hollywood Reporter: "...The world is blowed up. Yes, blowed up with an "ed" not an "n." Because only people who say it like that will like this dumb piece of schlock..."
USA Today recommends watching it with the sound off: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2014/06/19/critics-corner-june-19/10686301/
USA Today: "As for this Syfy sequel to the torched-by-an-angel movie Legion, it's the kind of series that is best watched with the volume muted and your brain off. Silence will allow you to enjoy the sight of good and evil angels flying and fighting without actually having to hear any of the badly written and delivered dialogue that surrounds them. (Pity any actor who has to say lines like "There is no me without you.") And a thought-free approach will stop you from obsessing over why an American city would suddenly turn into Ancient Rome, or why the producers assume we've all seen Legion and we're all on board for the cumbersome back story. Because both are a mystery to me."
If you can't sleep, watch Dominion -- it'll have you out quicker than Ambien.
Felt the show had poor acting. The fighting didn't feel that exciting.
It was an alright movie. You can tell there were a lot of nods to the Alien movies. Like the Alien movies, it's annoying the 'scientists' are completely moronic during specific situations.
