Formula 1: Drive to Survive: Season 6

Ahh... how sweet is it to have another season of DTS? Right from the first couple of scenes with all the boys chilling in the summer break, hanging out for the photoshoot and finally reliving the intense Hamilton vs Alonso fight at Bahrain 2023.

I feel really grateful that DTS is even in production. For most sports, we don't have a super high-quality, cinematic documentary of each season, I'm very thankful that we do have it for F1.

A deep movie that really resonated with me. It brings up a lot of questions on loneliness and intimacy. Some brilliant, insightful dialogues in there too.

Running Man: Season 2022

Overall, it was a fun season but there were quite a few boring episodes. Even though its been a while since LKS left, I still couldn't shake off the feeling that something was missing. RM is incomplete without him. After his departure, I've started appreciating Haha and JSM a lot more. Hope to see more guests in the future to fill the void.

Attack on Titan: Specials

Wow, what an emotionally gripping end to this masterclass of an anime. The last two parts stayed true to what made AOT such a memorable series - highly emotional personal relationships and breathtaking and unpredictable action scenes all tied together with some amazing CG and BGM.

Yes, I think the whole scene with Armin and Eren was a bit of a head-scratcher and the decision-making of Eren was always a bit dubious to keep the plot going, but given the end result and the emotional highs that you get from the series, all that can be forgiven and forgotten if you don't think too much about it.

S3P2 onwards is where the anime really started to impress for me - retake of shiganshina, invasion of marley and the Eren + Zeke fights will be some of the most heart-thumping action scenes I will ever see.

The Last Samurai

A cinematographic masterpiece. Beautiful, haunting music all throughout that keeps you on a perpetual emotional high. The storyline is a bit dramatized, but delivers on all the big moments.

Scenes from a Marriage: Season 1

Ep 2
As someone who's single and looking for a partnership, this was possibly the scariest episode I've ever watched.

What do you do if a partnership that you once thought was rock solid, something you've been building for decades, falls apart in a night? What do you do if your partner isn't attracted to you anymore, if she stops feeling a sense of love and connection towards you?

That's so brutal, I'm sure I'd fall apart.

Psychologists have pointed this out, with love we want to have two opposite feelings simultaneously - security and passion. When you're married, you see this person all the time - at bed every night, at every meal, in their underwear. They become like another limb, they're just a part of you now. And they also have to get you excited and passionate as well? Did your mother or father get you excited? Your teachers? Your boss? Its an impossible standard, yet people do need both and every couple has to navigate this.

And here its further complicated by the fact that you can fall in love with other people. What do you do with that?

Land of Mine

The German people did not cause WWII, a minority in the Nazi party did.
This is true for almost all wars, the majority want to live in peace not go killing other people.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

Feels quite repetitive now.
Also, can we come up with a more sophisticated description of the main plot (here, Entity) that appeals to people with a normal IQ instead of just using fancy words that would only impress a ten year old? Thanks.

The Help

This is a bit of a difficult one to watch cause of the cognitive dissonance I had since we have our own maid at home. Brought up a lot of questions.

Absolutely Nothing Prepared: Season 1

A bit sad when I finished the last episode of the season ended. Somehow it felt like Youngji and all her guests became a little like my friends - talking about their personal lives and difficulties. Hope we get to see more candid shows like this. And Youngji did a great job, always keeping things engaging with her over-the-top, big personality while also asking the right questions and comforting her guests.

Absolutely Nothing Prepared: 1x19 Existence unbalanced humanity, the ultimate scammer Yoo Ji-min

This is a rant.

Somehow, watching this episode made me realize how much of an advantage being beautiful is. Karina, obviously, is an extremely pretty girl.

If you look at Youngji and the staff's reaction, you can see it quite plainly. Like when Youngji herself says things like, "I understand why everyone wants to date you", "I love you, you're mine" and her general behaviour throughout the episode. The staff as well, you can see how they get very attached to Karina (even though they have no prior relationship with her, this is the first time they're meeting) and at the end they say, "don't leave".

This is the way of the world. Appearance makes you very likeable and desirable. How much would an average-looking, or ugly-looking person have to do to elicit the same kind of reaction and attachment from people? Probably a lot lot more, years of building a relationship.

Boys and girls, the world is unfair and there's nothing much you can do. Realize its unfair and make the best out of what you've been given.

Nolan at his best.
Can anyone craft a tale like him? A masterful storyteller.

War is humanity at its worst.

Normal, decent men are turned into murderers. And for what? The pride, ego and greed of the powerful. Family's torn apart, a lifetime of trauma, unimaginable suffering, mass torture and death, all for the stupid intangible feelings of a few.

Is there no other way for an intelligent society to settle it's disputes? Will we always race to hold the biggest stick, and eventually wield it? Will we always be under the tyranny of ambitious, power hungry, selfish men who treat people like pawns in their own little senseless games?

Couldn't the three of them just be friends till the end?
But I guess that doesn't make for an exciting drama nor is it how life works.

Wah, that fight between Suho and Youngbin's hyung was something else! Two fighters going at it, it was so realistic! And Beomseok coming in for that final bump was just perfect.

The scene in the restaurant when Suho feeds Sieun was so perfect, I was so emotional, I almost had tears in my eyes. When he fed that ssam to Sieun, it was the first time we see Sieun have even a half-smile, after all that he's been going through.

One Fine Spring Day

I've been going through a phase where I've been struggling with unrequited love.
This movie really spoke to that, especially the last scene. I will remember that whenever I'm having unreciprocated feelings.

Sometimes, you need to let go of their arm, give the plant back and walk away.
Just give the plant back, it's time to move on.

This episode reminded me so much of myself.
But then one day, once you've faced enough of the real world, you realize that labelling yourself a "hopeless romantic" is not something to be privately proud of but a naivety that comes from understanding neither people nor love.

What If

Ah yes, the age-old question of whether you can be friends with someone you're in love with. Which kind of suffering would you rather pick, being friends and having the most amazing time together all the while knowing that you will never be the one for them or to never see them again or feel the joy of their company ever again?

Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey

A movie with some of the most misogynistic and two-faced characters that I have ever seen. It was repulsive the way Jaya was treated by her family, spouse and in-laws. Unfortunately, this behaviour and mindset is not uncommon in Indian society. The only part that I actually felt good about was when Jaya took the decision not to go back to her parent's or spouse's house and decided to live independently.

Wah, you just can't trust anyone. To think rationally on personal issues is very hard.
That was the biggest twist I've seen in a Tamil movie.
