The funny thing is that after the episode ended, I came here to give it some stars.
I don't know why some people are shocked at the ending. It’s basically the plot line of Crime and Punishment (the allusions to the book were given frequently). Joe isn’t punished in the sense of being in prison, and even though he’s technically free, now he is stuck with a girl just like him and a baby on the way when he would rather be with a “normal” girl he can manipulate and control. He is trapped and it’s a Gone Girl-esque ending. He even compared his new home with Love to a Siberian prison.
It was so funny watching Joe judge Love for all the shitty things she’s done. Like she was somehow worse. His murder sprees are not repulsive to him because he did them and he felt justified. That logic does not extend to others, just him. It’s a perfect mirror for showing just how delusional Joe is. The series isn’t about how he finds love. It’s about how Joe is a predator, using love as a way to convince himself he’s doing things for the right reasons. The whole point of Joe's character is that he will never be satisfied. It’s in his nature to crave what he can’t have. That’s why I thought the ending was perfect. Of course he is already interested in his “normal” neighbor. He is going to start fantasizing about her to escape his “tortured existence”.
Totally saw the Love twist coming from a thousand miles away. She was always coming on strong. Her killing Delilah was super predictable too. I actually liked that they made her psycho because Joe somewhat got a taste of his own medicine.
Overall, I enjoyed this season, but:
I’m a little disappointed in the lack of creativity. Season 2 had a lot of similar storylines to the first one: Love is the new Beck, Ellie - the new Paco.
Realism isn't necessary in fiction but some of the plot holes were annoying. How did Candace know exactly which storage unit was Joe’s? How could Forty turn on Joe so fast? Officer Fincher thought Joe could have been the murderer because of some expensive headphones but has done absolutely nothing about it. Joe reconstructing the glass box in the storage container was a bit of a stretch for me. This whole season, while entertaining, is completely unrealistic. It requires all characters to be morons and the hugest of coincidences to happen at every turn.
I was incredibly disappointed absolutely nothing from Joe's old life came back (other than Candace). He moved to a new city and changed his name - poof all his problems are solved? What happened to the PI the Salingers hired?
Candace's character had potential. They hyped her up in the first season so I thought she would do something but no, she didn't have an actual plan and was outmatched at every turn.
Was it the writers intention to insert cringy millenial jargon into every possible piece of dialogue? Really went too far compared to last season. And all the "woke" dialogue was so cringe, boring and trite.
You have to go in expecting it to be a bit silly and it doesnt have the most talented editor but if you can get past that then you'll find fucking salvation!!! Imagine supernatural if it wasnt a homophobic, misogynistic, racist fuck up of a show. With actually funny as hell lines and great actors!! watch this, its really worth it!
I honestly think this whole season was a waste of time because I can't even name three things that would make this season relevant. It just feels like pure filler with bad writing. I'm sure I could have skipped this whole thing and didn't miss out on anything.
- I can't believe Bear just suddenly remembered he had a camera installed. What an absolute lame "twist" to solve Kenny's death.
- Geraldine was just... pointless? I thought she might be involved with the Twelve or has some personal agenda, hidden secrets or something. But I guess the whole point of her was to have mommy issues?
- I was hoping for more infos about the Twelve when Villanelle becomes a keeper, but I neither know what a keeper even is nor do I have any more knowledge about the Twelve. Disappointing and feels like a wasted story that Villanelle tried to go up the ranks.
- The ending was okay. I wish I could be more emotionally involved, but the whole season was such a drag that I just feel... numb. It's nice they finally chose each other, but I hope that'll be relevant in the next season because the cat and mouse game gets a bit boring by now. And I hope they'll finish with season four.
I don't know, the show is still decent but we continue to just rush through areas / locations way too quickly, I don't feel like there is any danger or threat as they just deal with everything so quickly. I think every episode so far would've benefited by being 10 mins longer
Rarely have I felt so overwhelmed by an ensemble as by this show. This episode in particular requires you not only to memorise a heap of completely new characters but also to map them onto the corresponding older versions of themselves. The fact that the show plays in a deeply white rural town in Germany doesn't help as everyone looks exactly the same.
The transition between Marc and Steven (and also their suits) during the episode was definitely something else that I'll be obsessed with for the rest of the year.
And thank you, Mohamed Diab for finally showing Egypt without the "Hollywood yellow filter". He’s doing an amazing job directing this show, I absolutely love the soundtrack and the visuals.
The baby laser is the best thing I've seen this year. I burst out laughing!
I absolutely loved the montage of their traveling. Best way to get to know each character, their habits, and illustrate just how different they are. So much better than the first episode!!
[silently] I'VE BEEN STUNG BY A WASP
Sister Maggie and Nadeem are the true heroes and stars of this episode, let's be honest. If something happens to them or his precious family and they don't survive the season I WILL FLIP.
I consider Doctor Who to be very similar to Star Wars. In the sense that it’s all Star Wars, you can have favourite characters and episodes, but saying things like “I don’t like the prequels they ruined it”, I’m sorry but you’re not a real Star Wars fan. This mentality can be used with Doctor Who. People who don’t skip whole seasons because they don’t like the person playing the character or the show runner is bad is not a real Doctor Who fan. This is what the show is, complaining about it won’t make you enjoy it more. Jodie is an amazing Doctor, Yaz is a great companion. You’re all just complainers.
I love this return to serial style set up. This episode is obviously all setup and there was a lot of characters to keep track of, but I really enjoyed this. I’m excited to see where it goes. I love this. Is it my favourite Doctor? Companion? Show Runner? No. But I understand and accept those things are out of my control. It’s all Doctor Who. And it’s all good.
Another fun episode. Yet, people are writing negative reviews “this is why I gave up on the show.” If you really gave up you wouldn’t be still watching and reviewing it lol.
Wow, good thing that company didn't deactivate that hi-tech, security ID badge of that worker they fired....
Great premiere, remove the flashforwards and it could have been an amazing episode.
Shouldn’t the TARDIS have caused the Cyrillic sign in the underground tunnel to appear as English?
I noticed that the note Juliette found at 18:50 reads "Remember where you were the last time you saw this? I found what I was looking for," whereas the note she handed to the sheriff at 27:45 reads "Remember where you last saw this?" (and then it's cut off, being torn in half). Production error? Feels kind of sloppy for a show that otherwise has amazing production design and a very keen attention to detail.
Overall, so far I like the show! I don't remember much from the books, but the looks and atmosphere seem to have been captured incredibly well here.
Adena may be a 'muslim lesbian living in today's America' but Kat is a black woman who was about to be arrested in an America where black individuals get shot by police for jaywalking... I would've liked to hear her argue that counter point.
Wow, that aide storyline did not work for me at all. Melissa was not wrong to expect Ashley to be helpful and not distracting to her students. I also didn't love Ava laughing about Jacob's mode of transportation being stolen in the cold open; the show walks such a fine line with that character and this was on the wrong side of it.
I would have found this episode more credible if we had seen Barry and Ralph playing paintball or laser tag at some early point.
Nick is such a sweetheart. He's the most adorable, thoughtful guy ever. I'm terrified this show is gonna ruin him :( Please, don't ruin him
Also, I'm not digging Roz and Harvey dating. Don't date your BFF's ex boyfriend. It's just messy and unnecessary.
This show is not wasting a second of screen time. I don't think I've seen an anime move forward so fast. Makes you wonder how massive the story must be if our hero already meets his nemesis this early on.
Melanie Lynskey's storyline feels like filler. The rest is good.
Lot of issues with this season so far. English dude is super unlikeable. (are we supposed to suddenly love him coz he volunteers at a soup kitchen?), Alex and Whatsherface have terrible chemistry. Lena becoming a cliché villain?
I just hope they find a way to recover and build towards something more meaningful.
The first half was really frustrating thanks to that idiot that kept blowing his chances with Beth. He couldn't handle a strong, independent, sexually liberated young woman.
After he disappeared, the episode got more interesting.
I’m a sucker for an alternate reality storyline — and I loved this episode! The eldridge terror stuff gets a bit muddled and convoluted at times, but this was a fun romp regardless. All the references to both this iteration of Sabrina and the old 90s TGIF staple were an absolute delight.
For a show that can be so silly and over-the-top, it was great to see it parody itself here... with jabs at obligatory shirtless scenes, Lilith’s never-before-seen bedroom, the set model with artwork pending legal approval (which I’m assuming was a reference to the show’s real-life Satanic Temple lawsuit), and television rating stunts.
Much of this season, for me, exhibited why Sabrina ultimately succumbed to cancellation, but this episode showed off its creative potential — and reminded me that I’m really going to miss it.
Why does nobody notice a man with red eyes and claws
Wish they'd done a bit more with the impenetrable wall , guess we'll have to see it it's brought up again later.
I still do not understand why the flashforward storyline exists.
I'm so in love with all of the three Snicket siblings
