There was a bit of hype surrounding this movie, and it's actually more a coming of age movie than a straight cannibal movie. However , there's one particular scene to make you uneasy for sure, and some others in much lesser degree (or so this horror hound speaks).. It reminded me a bit of Ginger Snaps but with another horror palette so to speak. This still means you should see this movie! Fingerlicking good....
Hmmm.. So the story is pretty cliched, which maybe can be excused because it’s already an 80’s throwback film anyway, but..
It’s taking a pretty long time to get to the finale when there is a pretty big tonal shift which just doesn’t feel right. I think this sours the whole experience (horror or not) for most people.
Summer of 84 is another addition in this (tiresome) 80’s retro-wave, so if you are feeling nostalgic, this wouldn’t be my first choice.
Thick on mood, simple but effective story. It's worth a watch once but it's really a slow burn, so beware. The film could really use some improvement on editing/pacing. Good actors but sparse dialogue.
Intriguing.. also because the down to earth approach it has yet making the sataniic ritual believable.. I'm happy the occult genre gets more attention nowadays so this small film had my attention for sure. The ending leaves some people divided but for me it's actually refreshing. Stay pure.........
Great debut from Macon Blair! The film is fun, quirky and sometimes even a bit dark and bloody, but never exaggerated. Worth your time.
One of the best remakes in the horror genre, fantastic music(!), acting, FX and intense horror without cheap jump scares. No unneccesary padding, this movie goes straight to the point. Evil is being unleashed and it’s relentless.. Recommended!
A slow burn without much music .. Great characters in a calm western, with some gruesome & disturbing imagery near the end (western-only fans, take note!) .. A nice genre-mix for the fans of both!
Very pleasing visuals, and not only because of Ava.. The location is a beatiful design hotel (Juvet Landscape) in Norway , fitting the clean scifi look & feel. The ending could have been handled a little better I think, but it's very much worth your time, go check it!
This is a simple story, told in a slow but beautiful fashion. The production design is really fantastic for such a low budget title. This also means action is offscreen (audio only) except for the finale which is kinda underwhelming with the limited tools the budget gives.
Fans of everthing Viking & horror might like this however, or even aspiring filmmakers to see what you can achieve with such a budget.
Dissapointing sequel where the green color grading from the first film has been replaced with gray. Boring and not scary, better rewind the first film!
Good acting in a pretty mediocre monster movie. It's not bad, but I didn't think it was that scary after the constant buildup takes too much time and kinda bored me. The story is bittersweet but it lost interest to me after 1 hour or so...
Silly plot in a great looking set.
Fantastic, just watched it again in years.. Still holds up.
Nice thriller, but after an hour the twist is easy to figure out which takes the bite out of the rest of the film. Let’s see what David Chirchirillo brings next, as I really liked Cheap Thrills he wrote!
Dark, funny, great performances and memorable characters in this excellent film. I’m very interested what Ryan Prows brings next. Recommended
Intruiging to watch Dahmer’s in his teen years getting off rails.. The story is small but all details in here are true. Socially inept but oh so looking for true friendship (Derf doesn’t really count) he knows how to grab attention by acting weird which is cringeworthy and sad. A friendship comes out of it and this film is based on the comic made by this friend, John Backderf.
This is not comedy or nasty horror, just a tragic look at an anxious loser letting the dark feelings take over.. Recommended.
Mediocre film with some seriously distracting and ugly CGI for the main story.
I loved the games and could be a very intersting universe to draw some compelling stories from, but this was just cliched and even boring.
How and what happened causing the sickness is not important, this is more about the people trying to survive and the uneasy trust in others. At times you wonder where the looming danger might come from, the newcomers, from the family itself or outside..
The film is moody, beautiful, sad and suspenseful and not the typical horror survival flick led to believe by the trailer and title..
Fun and good sequel to the already excellent first film. Worth seeing just for the bowling vampires scene itself!
Early in the film you can see where this is going, but what annoyed me was the dumb decisions of some of the characters. Some disturbing imagery later on , but I couldn't really recommend it.
One of the greatest horror films of the 90's! Acting, story, atmosphere, music, it all works. A classic in it's genre and stands on it own. Not your average slasher as it might look so if you missed out, go see it!
Troubled young lady in beautiful black & white. I didn't convince me totally but it's pretty disturbing nevertheless. Try it out.
Chan-wook Park kicking it out of the park again (sorry). Beatiful and dark, it's easily recommended!
Not very convincing...I found some sequences a bit sillly even and the jump scares got old quickly.. Didn't see the twist coming, but couldn't save from being a mediocre film...
I loved this one, very unsettling with some sped up footage of ants eating their prey.. It actually gives you the itches! Worth a watch..
Jake Gyllenhaal is a complete creep in here and props to him for a great performance in a cynical movie about the news vultures working at night.. Film at 11....
Decent ghost story, not really scary but very moody and a gross-out ending makes it worth to watch.
Actually a nice dark thriller, some flaws though (the kid being OK with everything, we know more already than the protagonist, which kinda ruins the ending if you pay attention). But, this is a very solid thriller and worth a watch for sure!
Farfetched script, but directing, production and acting sell the film pretty good. It works as an overall package but don’t take it too seriously.. One room at a time...
One of the best anthology films I’ve seen, dark yet very humane and recognizable... Recommended!
