I'm- actually a sheep herder
Maybe i'm picky but the writing on this one has a certain laziness in the first act moving into the second act that was hard to get past for me. Unfortunately due too this there are hardly any moments that you didn't know were coming from the first 15 minutes of the film. and i say this quite literally. every now and then i end up taking notes (no matter how good or bad i think a movie is and i did. 15 minutes in and they had already blatantly set up the plot points in the most obvious ways. not only do you know all the conflict that will arise but you also by default know how it ends which is unfortunate.
that being said. the visuals and sound effects were amazing! this is the kind of DC movie that will push the extended universe into the realm of the Marvel Universe in terms of quality and expansiveness. at times it might have felt a little michael bay but it was definitely epic. the fight scenes were exciting and as the movie went on and they stopped just telling you what the next 6 scenes would be. it actually got quite enjoyable (i assume its just due to DC now introducing characters well enough so they spend the first act basically reading a biography and saying things like "ill get you one day" or "you were made to win 1M$" only to see that someone holds a grudge and they win $1M. Obviously that doesn't happen in the movie but leave a little to the imagination no? anyways, atlantis was stunning, reminiscent of james cameron's Avatar landscape coupled with the grandness of Marvels, Thor. in fact that is where i would place this movie. most of the other DC movies (that i've seen) have read a bit like captain america. but they just introduced liquid Thor (and this comparison is car too accurate imo).
in the end. it wasn't the best movie i've seen of its class but it has me interested for the future of DC as i can only. as much as i trashed it for over a paragraph. i'm not all disappointed and in the end i had a decent time (though the closing line was a little cheesy for me).
Ultra Spoiler: did they ever really address why he was so not down then did it begrudgingly then randomly was super down like its all he's ever wanted in his life?
TL;DR
its what you'd expect. not amazing and super predictable plot. picture perfect cast (well casted, can you tell they have a good budget?) but lack any true roundness in my eyes. great graphics but not groundbreaking. decent sound effects and a romantic interest that when sparks ended up flying felt like it was just there to well- be there
Hmm, feels like they are trying to hit 'boundless rick and Morty' and 'nuanced Bojack horseman'. with just a dash of bobs burgers.
countless cliche or token characters that make the overall show feel a bit, (barely) different characters, same story. the comedy seems very in your face. that can work for some people but for me, it feels like it constantly has the potential of being funny then 75% the way in a majority of the jokes they overdo something. whether it be over-explaining, (and especially) over delivering the joke, sweating excessively (this I the first time in the last 15 years I have felt like something had excessive swearing to the point it affects the quality of the show/movie. though the storyline seems intriguing enough. to keep it short, I'm still watching. the comedy funny enough, but it's so on the nose it feels like its shooting past its potential. in the end, it's good enough to keep watching. though I don't believe it has enough to truly be memorable.
Visually pleasing, the storyline is thrilling and quality is either better or worse, I can't necessarily tell. I can't help but wonder happened between season 6 and season 8 that made them turn this show into a Hollywood blockbuster? I've never felt like a show was doing things just to complete a checklist than in this season. if they made it 2 episodes longer even they would have so much room to improve the ending plot and really wrap things up without it feeling excessively cheap. they really put lipstick on a pig with this one. its visually stunning you can definitely see that budget. but why was the budget (even just 1M of that 15M per episode... ie 1M/90M) put towards proper writing.
Hats off to the animation team. Though this is 100% a cash grab type of movie and it really shows. The story, the characters, the motive. It all feels kind of cheap. Incredibly predictable, if you are 10% sure who the true antagonist is. Allow my to correct your math and tell you there is no was it’s not 100% that. I never used to understand when people said “back in my day” until Disney x Pixar started learning how to kill dreams and make money.
I hate how this is my most watched movie...
I started watching as a background movie to the work I was doing. within 60 seconds I had but my laptop down and was consumed for the next 2Hrs. you are immediately taken in by the so perfectly done action scenes and encapsulated in the Cinematography.
AMAZING!! Favorite Disney Princess Movie!
