Castle Rock

Season 1

From executive producer J.J. Abrams comes the Stephen King inspired horror series Castle Rock. Season 1 follows a defense attorney named Henry Deaver who returns to his home town of Castle Rock, Maine, when he receives an anonymous tip that a young man has been found in a closed off section of Shawshank prison and that it’s being covered up; however, before long Henry starts to have doubts about helping free the young man. While set in Stephen King’s fictional town from several of his books, nothing in the main plot is directly taken from them. In fact, the writers have some trouble finding a plot and settling on the main characters. A lot of the episodes are just set up and vignettes that don’t really go anywhere. Still, the cast delivers some strong performances, and the production values are especially well-done; creating a creepy and atmospheric tone. Season 1 of Castle Rock is ambitious, but ends up being a muddled mess (like a lot of Stephen King works).
