this season was definitely better than the last, hands down. i cried actual tears in this episode thanks to kate and may's scene before the ball (but that might be because i had a terrible mom and so moments between loving mothers and daughters emotionally overwhelm me).
also, given the way the actors have talked about their characters' relationship i get the feeling pen ran away from the conversation colin was having a little too soon?? i haven't read the books but i know it takes him like six million years to realize things there and this season did feel like pen was coming a bit more into herself and colin was seeing her properly and colin loudly declaring he'd never marry penelope as if it were an insult doesn't seem very much in character for him as a person anyway.
