Starfleet's escape pods don't have enough stored in them to survive for even 10 days? Seems like a silly oversight to me.
Also ok fine universal translators make them able to understand each other, but how does B'lanna read the note? She didn't learn to read their language in two weeks. And now that I think about it, how does Kelis understand the ship logs?
