Star Trek: Voyager: Season 6

6x22 Muse

I really liked that one. Not so much the story about B'Elanna crashing on this planet and being a Muse for the poet. No, I like the play itself, if that makes sense. It reminds me of the Star Wars by Shakespeare books from Ian Doesher. I actually would like to see a whole episode in that style.
I also do like what they were saying about how storytelling changed. That the audience wants more excitement and action, which seems more important than the play itself. This is what I experience often when I watch "plays" today. The story seems to become less and less important as long as there is enough noise to paint over that fact.

What prime directive? Nothing to see here

Well alright Shakespeare! I have been aMUSED!

Hamlet said, "The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King." Only, in this case, it's not to catch a murderous uncle, but to quell the anger of a Warlord, and it works. I found the theatric spin on the Borg encounter, accurate dissection of Tuvok's character, and the romantic shipper fan service to be particularly amusing.
Good fun!

Starfleet's escape pods don't have enough stored in them to survive for even 10 days? Seems like a silly oversight to me.

Also ok fine universal translators make them able to understand each other, but how does B'lanna read the note? She didn't learn to read their language in two weeks. And now that I think about it, how does Kelis understand the ship logs?

Theater nerds may like this story. It's like one of the writers always wanted to write plays (instead of a mediocre TV show). This guy clearly admires ancient Greece. But in the end it is kind of a boring story. Very unique though I actually like Kelis the Poet (the rapper is one of my favorites too). Well played. Credible depiction of a creative mind. I like his unspoiled believe in the power of arts. It's almost an intimate story (compare this with the missing chemistry between her and Paris). Btw: the poet comes up with an alternative "Borg vs The Captain" plot with a wonderful Janeway character profile and a wonderful Star Trek-ish interpretation of what this story is supposed to mean and why this story needs to be told. I wish they would have realized this story in season 7.

No matter what the show runners try to do with B'Elanna, she always remains one-dimensional: the resourceful but hot headed engineer. The character has so much potential and Roxann Dawson ain't a bad actor, but they simply don't know how to develop her character.
