They did a nice job of wrapping up some arcs and setting the table for next season here. I can easily imagine an alternate final five minutes or so that could have been filmed and used if the show had been canceled instead of being renewed for a final season. A final season that I'm already looking forward to!
Kind of think that Liv might be cursed at this point. Her boyfriends have an 80% mortality rate. Lowell, Major (technically), Levon and Drake. Literally only Justin has survived so far.
I don't buy it a second that Blaine suddenly wants his father in his life. That whole part of the story this season was hardly believable.
It all started with Angus extorting brains from Blaine.
Blaine's father is simply insane, that's partly Blaine's fault I'd say, yet he still is an abusive father to him.
Him riding on a horse out of that smoke looked pretty awesome, though. That was a very good shot.
Speaking of, his real death and the filming of it was somewhat comical in its exaggeration.
But what they wanted to achieve with these fade out shots I don't know. Mood killer.
Let's have a climax on this episode and season finale and ruin it with something like that.
Didn't know how to make this whole setup work without those shots, huh?
Here we proved again, dating Liv is a death sentence in more than just the zombie way.
Overall a very typical iZombie season finale.
But why does Liv someone need to eat the whole brain to be cured? The rat ate a tiny bit.
That's simply idiotic, yet again so arbitrarily limiting the cure, basically wasting the whole brain for nothing.
As if it couldn't help Ravi in creating a cure. He barely did anything with it as there were so many other shenanigans going on.
Major is still tainted as a character. Yes, he came around the last episodes but I still do not like him.
Oh, look, the sheeple need a new Führer and he gets Blaine into his boat as the first act and forgives him all his debts. Pfff..
Besides that, I am longing for the episode where Don E. is finally killed off.
Given Major's new position is he going to be the next antagonist, will he also die like any other previous boyfriend of Liv?
Or are they going to get together again, that's why he did not get killed of?
Well, we'll see.
No, you're crying. Even if the final season just turns out to be a breathless chase towards a cure, instead of (at least partly) the brain-powered zombie police procedural I'm craving, this finale regardless made me a lot more excited about the renewal than I thought I would be, a couple of episodes ago.
After a lackluster season (to put it mildly), somehow they managed to give us one of the best episodes this show has ever seen. I guess it pays off when it's Rob Thomas himself is in charge of the writing (yes, I checked the credits).
It's frustrating that Liv will most likely carry on being Renegade, because that still feels too out of character for her. I really don't like seeing her in that role, it's like it's meant for someone else. Or maybe I just miss her, Ravi and Clive (basically, the core of the show). Anyway, now with Major in charge, anyone can be Renegade, so maybe they'll let Liv be just Liv, again.
Unfortunately, as expected after this season's dull (and dumb) writing, the introduction of Isobel's character was completely useless and pointless, a very tiny arc in the story that made absolutely no sense, but at least she left a delightful post-mortem present for Clive and Dale.
If you haven't already, you can stop reading this comment here, because I'm now mentioning something no one probably cares about. After the unfortunate and frustrating cancellation of Dark Matter, I thought it would take a long time before I'd see Melissa O'Neil in the small screen again. But, thank Heavens, she got a small role in the last few episodes of this season. She's such a sight for sore eyes, I was just happy for the little screen time she had. Hopefully, there'll be some more of that next season. Which, apparently, will be the last. Can't say I'm mad about that, this season suffered quite a blow in the quality department, so I guess there isn't much they can still make to keep this show going strong.
Not gonna lie. Chase's death was really anti-climatic.
They couldn't have handled the executions and Chase's final scene any worse, even if they tried. Really? Flashes? I get that it's a TV show, not a Marvel movie with a huge budget for action scenes... but come on, that was LAME.
Intense episode.
I actually shed a tear.
I wonder what brain major was on in the end though. Nailed Blaine.
Overall, pretty good episode. I felt bad for Liv but it is starting to feel like the writers don’t know how to give a nice, natural exotic for her boyfriends that doesn’t include death.
I don’t understand why this cure isn’t viable to use for other zombies. Why can’t Ravi use it to create a vaccine? Why did she have to eat the entire brain? It felt like a cop out. Yes we know zombies have to exist on the show but couldn’t the writers do something like: people being afraid to take it out of fear it’ll just kill them permanently? Or it only works on some people, like newly turned zombies?
I used to like Major as a character the first couple seasons but now not so much. He just forgave Blaine? The man murdered all those street kids he was close to...among doing other things.
Major’s trainees wasn’t a great plot line so I’m hoping that now he’s in charge there is no more of that.
As for Clive- love him but I’m still not loving his now wife. I just don’t get it. She has a personality of a paper bag. Even the zombified version of her felt boring.
However, I do like that curing her will make Clive and Liv better friends.
The underground storyline was good but I felt like it was glossed over. I’m wondering if there will be more of that next season. Covering the difficulties the coyotes deal with and the people being smuggled.
I also hope they show Liv some ptsd or something. Not that I want her character to suffer more but she did kill Chase and they did hook up...so she wouldn’t be so carefree about his death. Even though he deserved it.
