Thoughts from an actually autistic person about the accuracy of autism in this show: It's great. Honestly. Very realistic, very relatable. But please do remember autism is a spectrum and we don't all also have Savant Syndrome.

I fucking sobbed during the bunny flashbacks.

I don't mean as doctors. I mean as people. Especially those who... who don't have the same advantages that we have. We hire Shaun, and we give hope to those people with limitations that those limitations are not what they think they are,

I'm sure House would love him

Freddie Highmore is a brilliant actor. I cried a lot while watching this episode, especially during the flashbacks, they are so sad. And Shaun's speech at the end is so emotional.

The soundtrack is also really great.

This is different than the other hospital/doctor tv dramas. It focuses on Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) who has autism & difficulties dealing with the patients. When it comes to anything medical/saving lives, he does it in such a fashion that your left wanting to see more. The first episode it a bit slow, remember it just the beginning!
Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Shiff) who is the president of the hospital, has gambled his position on the board/career with Shaun's ability to be an awesome Surgeon.

Content warning for animal cruelty, body gore.

I love these type shows. House, Bones, Scorpion...shows depicting genius type IQ in lower "E.Q." circumstances. Great pilot!

Loved it!

Great acting as always by Freddie Highmore. Interesting premise. He may lack a bedside manner but can he save lives? Yes? Give him the job!

Shocking end for the bunny. I only hope his deadbeat father met a suitable end.

Holy sh*t! It's August Rush all grown up! I'm still shocked he's my age. He looks so much younger! And speaking of that, how old is he actually supposed to be in this show?

Sadly, as much as I love my doctors shows, I'm not hooked yet. The intrinsic awkwardness that comes tied to a show where it's main protagonist is autistic can be exhausting.

Here I thought this was a new original idea from Hollywood, but it's not. There is a South Korean show with the same premise and the same name that came out in 2013. With that said, the first episode wasn't bad. I'll give a few more episodes a watch.

Good opening. I was hesitant to start this show because I heard so many negative reactions to it within the Autism community but a friend recommended it and I decided to give it a go. Shaun Murphy is introduced to us as a highly intelligent person when it comes to medicine/anatomy but lacking the skills in the social department. As an Autistic I find him (based on this one episode) incredibly relatable and I shed a tear hear and there because of the recognition I felt.
The flashbacks had me bawling and raised the question how Shaun got from there to this point in life so that leaves plenty more to explore.
The other characters didn't quite catch my attention just yet. It's the pilot so it's to be expected but they weren't interesting enough for me to care about. I'm giving this show a shot... hoping this will progress with time.

When you only know the actor as a psychopath and suddenly he plays an autistic, rather sweet doctor. Impressive!
Liking it so far! This honesty is refreshing. And of course he has savant syndrome, otherwise the ER is probably still as unattainable for autistic kids like suggested.

That was a pretty solid start to a show!
I was curious to see how accurate and real this show was from a Doc's pov. So, I searched on Youtube for one of their reactions. Apparently, it's mostly accurate. Kudos to Freddie Highmore for the amazing performance. My brother's autistic, so it's nice to see a show shedding perspective from an autistic character.

Not much else to watch. Thought I'd give this a go. Liked Freddie in Bates Motel. It was good. I don't really like the doctors except for the lady one. You know who. Is she the one screwing the other doctor? I think she'll dump him.

Watched this show for the first time today and although I will continue to watch, there were so many characters in episode 1 I didn't like!! Not sure if I'll warm to them or not!

New show to watch. I really enjoyed this episode, though the ending felt abrupt. I imagine I am going to cry a lot with this show.

This is imo one of the best pilots i ever watched. I (ironically) felt almost all possible emotions (sadness, happyness, angryness, feeling triumphant and 'hate' (the arrogant people)) watching this screenplay, as the story and struggles of the protagonist were unfold. I hope the rest of the series keep up this high standard!

I recommend this show to everybody. It's so interesting

Good idea, good protagonist (but Norman looks like a child), bad cast, awful writing. I really wanted to like this. Bring back The Knick.

Unnecessary sex scene, animal abuse - a violent thud of a bunny hitting a wall. the bunny is killed. Annoying white line that follows character when walking. Character gets the job at the hospital by answering one question.

Very interesting. Wanting to see more. As good a place to start. Bring on episode 2.

Yeah, but Norman couldn't save his mother... Oh, wait...
