While the trailers and adverts might make this seem like it's a happy romp, it's not. Believe me it's not. This, in my opinion, is a very sad film. It took me by surprised me and made me remember aspects of my childhood I don't normally keep at the forefront of my mind. This is despite the comedy and the happy joy-joy attitude seen for about 50% of the film. I really related to Riley, so much so that I actually cried quite a bit at the theatre. I felt a bit embarrassed but I really couldn't help it. It wasn't the acts in the film that made me sad, it was the explanation afterwards. Riley's motivations. Hearing it in words after seeing everything broke me. A Disney film hasn't made me cry like that ever.
You absolutely have to see Inside Out. But, don't go into it looking for it to put a smile on your face after a bad day. It's a really emotional ride. However, the message in the end is really worth it. It's a message that we should really get across to the children of today. I wish the message being put forward by this movie was being aimed at children back when I was a kid. It would have really helped. It would have indeed.
Ok, let's break this down:

- Homophobia
- Michelle's character is constantly insulted for half the film by Sandler, all because he didn't brush his teeth
- Women are used as a reward for the men even right from the first present day scene
- Game characters post-1982 used
- The jokes made by the cinema audience were funnier than any joke in the film
Pros:
- Adam Sandler says "Donkey Kong"
I went to see this despite all the hate the Minion characters receive online, and guess what? I had fun. It was a super lighthearted origin movie with a lot of loveable characters. I'd wager it to be a definite watch just for Scarlett Overkill alone, actually.
While I didn't super enjoy the original Despicable Me (and as such haven't seen the second film), I did enjoy this one more than that. At some points I felt myself beginning to chuckle and I'd instantly think "no, I shouldn't". But why, because some easily annoyed and ready-to-hate individuals on the internet might think I'm stupid for doing so? Screw those people. After resolving that in my head I ended up laughing quite a bit for the second half of the film. In a way, the characters getting mad at the Minions for just being Minions was as amusing as watching people blow up about them in real life. But, I guess that's expected of some silly little yellow creachers attracted to smug villains who want them to do things so obviously above them. The blow ups about the Minions in the movie were hilarious and seeing peoppe get frustrated at them were definitely some of the highlight moments - more-so than any of the slapstick hijinks.
Praise Disney for Judy's existence. ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly, I think Adam Sandler does better in serious roles over comedy ones. Click and Funny People cement that for me.
Oddly enough, it's well worth the watch despite it being kind of lame.
I was really surprised by how much fun I had watching Resurrection F today at the cinema. I actually really like how the story played out, and the visuals impressed me (in comparison to Battle of Gods).
The film went out of its way to bring back a lot of characters to the fray that were previously tossed out in favour of Goku, Vegeta, or another Super Saiyan in previous years. The use of characters like Roshi and Tien as actual fighters and not having them be blown away in a single punch felt like a welcome addition to me. Also, Whis and Beerus will always be a welcome addition to the Z cast in my eyes - getting in Jako (previously only in a DBZ spin-off manga) was an added bonus too. Other more constant members of the Z team also saw a make-over in this film, such as Bulma and Gohan. It was nice to see that Toriyama is ok with still changing his characters and letting them evolve.
In regards to the story, I know at this point it's basically just a small chunk of the overall new Dragon Ball Super sagas and thus was small in scope but that's still alright. It was a chance to reveal a lot of key elements that'll become big players in Toriyama's new DB universe - new levels of Saiyan, much higher levels of power, and a greater intelligent alien presence. It was also a chance to put Frieza's part of the DB universe to rest. I'm also not that fussed about the ending to the film, despite how much I like Vegeta. Toriyama has really shown us that Dragon Ball can go to new places and I like that.
Oh and lastly, the visuals. Really "crisp", and the CG was incorporated in a way that probably compensated for poses that would have been a bit to awkward to draw. Good move. Clap clap clap. Yay. Pretty good for an anime film, well especially compared to Toei's old DBZ films.
So yeah, good film. Go watch it. I saw it dubbed, Frieza's voice was as awesome as ever.
