Hi! I'm Emily. I especially love emotional stories that center growth, healing, trauma, reflection, redemption, empathy, and connection. But I'll try most things once :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I can't remember a time in my life when this was not a favorite film of mine! The myriad ways in which I love this movie have grown and shifted as I have developed. Most importantly, James Cameron successfully made worldwide audiences understand this tragedy in a more personal way. The chemistry between Kate + Leo, the costumes, visual effects, music, acting, and fantastic writing created the tension, bittersweetness, and immense beauty that make this film my all-time favorite.
I don't always enjoy superhero stories due to their lack of nuance, but that's where Steven Universe differs the most. Every antagonist is treated with empathy and has the opportunity to change and heal. The show sensitively, realistically and child-appropriately portrays grief, trauma, shame and love. SU also marked a major turning point for LGBT+ representation in children's shows. Between the stunning animation and music, impressive voice acting, and hopeful story, it's an all-time favorite.
A beautiful healing journey for three unique characters struggling to cope with trauma and desperately needing change. The palpable chemistry between the two leads makes the romance easy to root for (despite its dubious start), but each character also shines on their own. I cherish and admire this series for its impressive acting, heartwarming story, hopeful message, subversive writing, sympathetic characters, gorgeous settings, fun costumes, intentionality, and mental health representation.
