Spaceman

Yes yes, it's Interstellar but from Netflix...
But honestly I kinda liked it? A retro-futuristic Czech spaceflight with Adam Sandler delivering a decent acting job that got me more intersted in the book it's based on - which apparently has a very different ending too? That might be worth a shot!
Hanuš is wonderful tho!

Man, one of the best Korean movies I have seen recently and it's a Netflix Original, who would've thought? So, can Netflix do more of these in the future rather than ill advised western stuff that's just a mess? Some recent releases have been a bust but this here was just great. Good story, great casting and well produced as usual for a Korean movie - probably way cheaper than many of the US releases too. More please!

And here I was, thinking that "The Bad Batch" was a pretty bad movie already. Silly me...
How did they get any of those actors to perform in this garbage fire?

"Too bad" my friend told me how the whole story worked out in the manga and anime, this is just a terribly bad adaption of the original story. Unbelievable bad to be honest. The whole movie didn't make any sense this way and knowing how it ACTUALLY all went down it's so much worse... how could they fuck this up so badly? It was kinda nice to see Tetsuya Fujiwara after all those years since Battle Royal again tho.

The King's Choice

Very well acted movie with a look into history not often or at all brought to film. I do especially appreciate the casting of German/Austrian actors for the German's in the movie, made it all the more authentic. I also wouldn't mind a "sequel" telling what happened in the months and years to come since it isn't any less interesting or important.

Star Trek Into Darkness

You know, I kinda liked the first movie in the reboot series while my friends that saw it in the cinema back then with me absolutely hated it. We were similar Star Trek fans and enjoyed the franchise up to that point equally as much I'd say. Yes, I liked the first one even tho it was a farcry from the older material and left the feeling that the writers and Abrams didn't really "get" the Star Trek universe and just kinda created yet another "new" action franchise.

But this? I'm almost disgusted by the pandering and ridiculous try at "fan-service" in this movie. The references, the "role-reversal", the whole copying of material and characters from older movies with "a twist" and what not. A shame. How about something original and not another silly revenge story THAT WE ALREADY KINDA HAD?
WHY create a alternate universe if we are going to re-tread old ground and that even badly?
The movie was a mess, I don't know what the writers were thinking, not even gonna mention Abrams, can we just not give him movies or tv shows in the future please? (and that ship crashing into Alcatraz... what was he trying to tell us there?! good lord...)

As a Star Trek fan I feel insulted after watching this and if they are not going to come up with something new and original for the next movie this certainly was the last one I watched in this alternate timeline and will just start to pretend that it never existed.

Fantastic! Enjoyed every minute of it. Great characters, perfect voice cast, beautiful and oh-so-colorful visuals and least but not least a nice soundtrack. Yay. (and wow, to hear AKB48 in the movie and outro, amazing)

I don't think I've seen anything like that since The Raid movies? While it's not all on THAT level, nothing really ever came close. And first time (full movie) director Dev Patel? Mad props yo.

Everyone decries this as an overlong episode of Black Mirror but... is that a bad thing necessarily?
It may not have explored all the nooks and crannies of the issues with what was going on in the movie but I am fine with that, that's what we have Black Mirror for. On the other hand we have another top performance by Gael Garcia Bernal and Renata Reinsve was great too. "That one scene" had me floored tho. I'm a sucker for that and would have had me rate this even higher if they hadn't ruined the ending... they had a perfect opportunity to end on a "fade to black" but they had to come back and make it... worse? I am not yet sure if I like the ending or not. Frustrating.

Yeah honestly this wasnt all that bad, certainly didnt deserve to be wiped from the face of the earth or all of streaming.
It felt like a Disneyfied version of Stand by Me updated for a new generation of viewers and I'm all for that.

This documentary may not have been treading new ground regarding Michael J. Fox's history BUT the way it was edited and presented was outstanding. Wholeheartedly recommended.

I think with this China has reached #3 in my unofficial "animated movie country" ranking. Before there was a tossup between France and the UK+Ireland but damn. This was not just absolutely stunning on a technical level but also impressed story-wise and what they had the balls to do in a Chinese movie to begin with. The lighting and environments in this were bordering on Photorealism and this contrasted with the "unique" character design might not be everyone's cup of tea but it was honestly stunning.
Not to mention the animation of the lions heads, that was just something else.

Impressive work and another Chinese Director and Animation Studio to keep an eye on.

Suzume

It's been exactly 12 years since the Tôhoku earthquake and tsunami and I can hardly imagine how devastating a tragedy that has been. I can also only imagine how it would've been seeing this movie in a Japanese cinema all these years later, maybe even with ppl that were the age of Suzume when all this happened back then...

As someone not from Japan that was not involved in the catastrophe 12 years ago, this is a beautifully moving work that tries to express and process a national trauma in its own way and I think it succeeded at that. One of Shinkai's best work and very well worth a watch.

Deep Sea

Absolutely stunning visual masterpiece that is looking for an equal, not only in the chinese animated movie space.
The story and themes were also deeper than expected, just like the sea I guess!
If you can experience this in a cinema, preferably in 3D even, it should be experienced that way!

But can we PLEASE stop casting 30+ years old actors and actresses as... highschool students? I'd expect that from a The CW show but not from korean movies... :(

BAND-MAID, Chanmina, Reol - dope ass soundtrack, good classical Japanese actors with Jun Kunimura, a random Miyavi appears and some dope ass action scenes. Really can not complain at all with this. Wondering if this was aimed at a Japanese audience or at weebs? Either way, gimme more of this Netflix! Oh and I hope Miku Martineau has a bright future ahead, she has potential!
