Never Let Me Go

I really loved this movie, it keeps emotionally invested. And I loved the final idea, that actually there's no real certainty that our life has any more sense and purpose than of the clones. So make youself useful. That's the vibe I got from it and it's not that depressinb if you ask me. Motivating actually.

The Devil All the Time

Felt a little bit like a prolonged Fargo episode, but I generally enjoyed this, although the ending might have had some more depth in it.

The Oranges

Very nice. It could use a bit of depth in developing the love story between David and Nina (the whole story basically happened in a month?), but the chemistry was great here, and the idea that seemingly bad things may be just triggers for a better chapter of your life is very encouraging.

Yves Saint Laurent

I don't think this movie does justice with the designer and the struggles he's been through.
Like being treated in the psychiatric facility, in the movie it looks like he was too soft for the army and got mad, but it was much bigger trauma. And the issue with the fact that his mother didn't protect him when he was beaten as a child could have been explored further, and was contradictory to her approval and praise of him.
Generously, the movie made him look kind of shallow in my opinion, as well as their relationship with Berge which obviously was much deeper in real life. I think both of them wouldn't like their depiction, in terms of the script. The actors were great, though.

Prisoners

On of these "what would you do" movies. Makes you really think. I just think that Detective Loki's character could have some more depth to explain his actions and manners. Regarding the pace - I believe it is intentional, the sort of feeling you'd have if your child dissapears (as the tagline auggest). So I do recommend it. And going to hug my 3 years old daughter and pray these stories will be just in the films. I also see this movie as proof that faith does make you overcome everything eventually, and this is a great encouragment for me personally.

Sophie's Choice

It's a great movie, nice pace that doesn't feel like it was filmed over 30 years ago. It has many layers and gives a lot of thought regarding: "What would I do in their place?" - and even the ending seems positive and reassuring. Every suffering comes to an end. Highly recommend this one. Probably will read the book too.

World's Greatest Dad

Kyle (son): I didn't ask to be born, you know.
Lance (father): Neither did I.
Kyle (son): boo hoo.
This scene will stick with me. I think it's a great film, even though some parts are definitely a stratch. It shows us that sometimes we just get what we get, no matter how we try. And sometimes the best thing you could do is to accept it. It also shows how easy it is to create a wrongful cult based on nothing but own wishful thinking. Great movie. And noone could this role better than Robin Williams.

Killing Me Softly

Although it's been only twelve years since this movie was shot it feels like much more. But I’m not sure it looked any better on its time. It seems ridiculous and surreal even for a Hollywood film. It feels like some mixture of an erotic dream of a frustrated nerdy girl and a cheap horror movie with a “surprising” twist just before the end.

Fathers and Daughters

I'm surprised there's no comments here and that there were some really harsh reviews on this. I thought if was amazing, a real therapy for any girl who lost a father who cared for her. Russell Crowe was amazing, and I really loved Aaron Paul in the romantic hero role, he deserves more of them, with these eyes of his. I wept in this movie, although it's very rare of me. Only weak part I saw was the music - could've been less cliche. But all the rest - it's great. Perhaps it was unnapreciated because the idea of a connection between a father and child is still so unaccepted? Or maybe the fact that the women presented there were pretty selfish (Elizabeth, and the literary agent)? I don't know, but I know for a fact that there are men like that out there, I hope there's gonna be more of them. Watch this movie. It worth your time.

What's Your Number?

Everybody here for Chris Evans, but I came around this movie thanks to Anna Faris after watching season 1 of "Mom". Faris is playing more or less the same character here and looks like a very funny Britney Spears, also her bum was in the frame a lot, but I'm sure there's no complaining about that, as well as against the fine figure of Evans. Overall a fun movie, classic chick-flick. And I guess I've been watching too many series lately, cause I'd like to see what happens next, like will Colin musical career will pick up, will Ally do good with the sculpturing etc. Worth 2 hours of your life.

I Am Love

It may seem a bit long and slow for those who used to fast-paced movies, but it worth your while eventually, thanks to the magnitude of some scenes that deliver very special vibe. I believe its artistic and creative value worth your while and it's probably worth many rewatches as well, to dwell into the details.

I liked the fact that she ended in different guy in each version, but had the same profession and goals, like you can be happy with different people as long as you're loyal to yourself.
Beyond that, the hardships felt insignificant. Only child of well-off parents who are first disappointed by the baby, but afterwards are all on board (financially as well, that's a big one).
Also, she's hardly a teen mom, so it was an early pregnancy, but not something extremely difficult.
So a good entertainment, nothing too jolting, the acting was good enough for me, since there wasn't too much depth to begin with.

The Tomorrow War

I love how Chris Pratt evolved from a chubby sitcom shtick to this all-american-super-hero, I love all his recent roles, even if they're a bit of a typecast. He's flawed just enough, and equally charming.
I think this movie had the intent to make scientists and people who are interested in it look less like dorks and make smart sexy. And of course - bring up climate change again.
Also, if THIS is the new streaming material, I feel the movie theater concept is going to be extinct soon.

Love & Friendship

Why the bad rating? This movie is great, I didn't read this specific book of Austin, but it probably could be a quick fix for our fast-paced days when no one has the time for those "way too long of a books". Kate Beckinsale is perfect for the role, the movie is pleasantly conservative and not set for banal entertainment, some quotes about parenthood and religion were worth cherishing and the whole idea seems so positive to me - sometimes a woman just knows what's right for every one ;) Great one for our troubled times.

I read 60% of the book before watching (my husband who's also a watch-body was impatient) - and I felt the movie was done in a sloppy way, miss Pelegrine's character was played in a way that made her totally unlikable IMO, seemed like a bad witch caging poor children and using them - not a kind caregiver as it would make sense. Emma seemed to jump over her loved one's grandson pretty quickly and that seems kinda sick and unfaithful for someone who basically living the same day over and over again and supposed to still be attached to Abe. And visually it looks like Tim Burton ran out of his creative fuel.
"Dark Shadows" is a masterpiece comparing to this. Forgetful movie where everybody are evil and selfish, but some more than the others. It's a sad time to live in if these are our fiction and role models... Still going to finish the book, though.

The Water Diviner

Russell Crowe really nailed this film on his part, both acting and directing (such interesting frames and angles, pleasure to the eye and I believe a good material for directors' educating systems). But aside from that I feel that some parts of the film weren't historically accurate, especially the principle of Australians - they were recruited as a former British colony, that's all. And in general, a Russian woman playing Turkish one and speaking with a Russian accent, not Eastern at all - seems kinda unbelievable to my critically obnoxious nature :) But as a fan of Crowe - he's great here, as an actor and director.
