It was everything they said it would be and then some! Supreme spectacle with otherworldly intensity. Fan first was an experience I’ll never forget. A film for the ages. Long live the fighters!
I finished the book recently and when I was watching this movie I thught I was reading the book again. This is one of the best adaption of a book I've ever seen. The acting was great. Leonardo DiCaprio did a marvelous work, as always. I also love Toby McGuire performance. The worst is the music, too modern for that age.
I don't think many people realize how important this episode, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine in general, are. The show's talked about many issues, and I think it's very important that this episode focused on white supremacy and police brutality towards the black community. I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine and I think it's one of the most underrated sitcoms of this generation. More people should focus on this show. Please do not get it cancelled.
Total awesome. My heart was in my throat continuously watching this. Great visual style, Awesome soundtrack, and one of the best movie openings I've seen in a while. The chemistry between Gosling and Mulligan is palpable. One suggestion when you watch it - turn the lights down and the sound up - it is a movie that requires your undivided attention...
As someone who actually lives in Mexico, and has a 12-men strong Policias Federales group parked just outside my office with machine guns and a freaking tank (yes, a small tank with 2 50mm turrets), and my fair amount of dead bodies seen around in Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and Sonora, many kidnapped (and lost forever) friends, this movie is one of the best I've ever seen about the War On Drugs. The third act is too constrained, but understandable as this is a movie made for an American audience. I wonder if you guys can tell the difference between Mexico City (where most of the Mexican scenes were shot) and Ciudad Juarez or Nogales, because you can't film there at all. The situation here is worst than anybody can imagine, and I just have to look outside my window. I'm looking forward for the next movie with Del Toro's character.
I'm surprisingly upset by Ward' death. He was a multi-faceted villain and I enjoyed hating him. Still it will be cool to watch that thing wearing his meat suit.
I REALLY don't get why most people didn't like it. In my opinion it really worked quite neatly
"Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
Finally! I don't no why it took me so long to see one of the most acclaimed films of all time. The Shawshank Redemption really moved me.
The emotion that was put into it, was something really truthful and real. Even when there are moments where you predict what is going to happen next, its subtleness and immense depth affects you anyway. Since the very first moment, we are attached to it and not many films do that with the audience. Such a simple story but with such content.
Frank Darabont direction was amazing! The film has over two hours and you never get bored, you are driven by the emotion of the events and the great cinematography makes you feel the terrifying life in prison.
The performances from all the cast are something great to see but Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins are the ones who gave absolutely phenomenal performances. The performances of a lifetime.
I can see why many people love this film. They love it because is power makes it unforgettable. Now I love it too, and I will always remember it.
An absolutely beautiful story about hope and friendship.
A refreshing change from mediocre CW-style superhero series. The plot has an arc, and doesn't come off like writers are winging it each week -- some actual thought went into a story. And it's done without the emphasis on flashbacks to create a backstory. Quirky... unique... engaging... worlds better than the cookie-cutter Marvel franchise.
Ouch.
The visuals are breathtaking, as already shown by the trailers.
ScarJo is trying, you can tell that she wants this to be her new franchise.
It's edited quite nicely, it's got a (simple) story, and it's coherent.
So where did it go wrong?
One of the problems is that it takes away all of the philosophical depth from the original.
Well, that means you can still enjoy it from a simple action flick perspective, right?
Good luck with that.
This film has such a ridiculous amount of exposition, that it badly hurts the enjoyment of the film.
Many sequences consist of characters just talking to each other, and explaining the plot.
Things are definitely shown, but then the filmmakers don't think we're able to put two and two together, and hence add another explanatory scene.
As a result of that, the film doesn't take its time to develop the characters, meaning you won't care about them.
Top it off with an awful performance from Juliette Binoche, and you have your modern style over substance film.
3.5/10
Absolutely stunning pictures of a tragic event. This is frightening and scary at the same time!
except for the kinda shitty trailer, this movie really suprised me. it got everything right, had much pleasure watching it and cant wait to see more of this fantastic universe come to cinema!
This just keeps on getting better and better.
Such a phenomenal and truly important episode. This is definitely the best they've ever done and certainly going in my Top 10 of the year, and probably staying there. Literal art!
Deeply disturbing. But an excellent chapter. Makes me wonder what awaits me next chapter.
that's genius! nowadays there will never be movies like this again
This is what I call quite good! Better than any X-men movie, better than any other Marvel Show. Better than any other Super hero show even!
Nice treatment of the subject of racism in policing, without being heavy-handed or making light as this is a comedy. Really masterful bit of work in a half-hour format!
Commenting ahead of time to avoid all the people that are jumping on the hate bandwagon. The seasons a slasher one inspired by 80s horror... stop acting like you are expecting The Shawshank Redemption. Or continue to nitpick and blend in with the rest of the generic comments.
To the best of my recollection, no show has dealt with a major character death as well as this episode of Halt and Catch Fire.
Of the 5 principle characters (Joe, Gordon, Cameron, Donna, and Boss), it's safe to say that no character is as beloved as Gordon. He is hard working, genuine, and deeply care about people around him. He raises the bar for others to emulate. In my opinion, he's more responsible for bringing positive transformations for other 4 characters than anyone else.
All untimely death of a beloved character is filled with regrets. Haley is no doubt the most impacted. In the next remaining episodes, we will see how others will pickup the pieces, work toward healing each other, and bring "re-launch" into fruition in honor of Gordon.
Halt and Catch Fire is always beautifully shot, and unexpected lens flare in the middle of the episode was particularly effective (and I speak as someone who is sick and tired of lens flare tricks). It really stood out as something oddly unusual, foreshadowing Gordon's flashback later on.
The clash between Donna and Joe was my second favorite scene in the episode. In this final season, Joe has been the surprise understanding voice, always patient, always listening, and caring. He lost some of his composure with Donna, but the clash brought honesty and start the process of bringing Donna back into the circle.
And finally, Bos. His relationship with Cameron has always been very special. They fill much needed void they longed for. In a way, all five principle characters in Halt and Catch Fire are after filling a void. Donna falsely let her her ambitions take over, in a pursuit of filling her void. To Gordon, it has always been about family and friends. And Joe has realized the same by working with Gordon and Haley, bringing immense peace.
Silicon Valley is and has been that second wave California Gold Rush. At one point or another, all five principle characters got that piece of gold. But their dream is something else.
i cried. you've been great, show. (now can we have a film?)
This has to go down as an expensive misfire. Sequels have already been announced, but unless they want to call the next film Dull, they need to lay down a better story. There wasn't a lot of room for imaginative world building here, and there were too many bullets over the magic. Clunky dialogue threatened to sink it, but a few bright moments lifted the film from the surprisingly mundane setting.
A damn smart show that's constantly hilarious and packed with fantastic characters.
Started watching this on Saturday with my wife. went in with no expecations and it blew us away!!
A must see!! Dont see a lot of shows so well written these days.
First of all, I am so grateful that AMC let this amazing crew and cast finish their vision.
I lived in Silicon Valley for last 18 years, during the heights of dotcom, followed by a dotcom crash, then web 2.0 revival, and now cloud computing and machine learning revolution. I remember coming to Silicon Valley with big dreams, living in a sparsely furnished 1-bedroom apartment. Worked with big companies, worked with dotcom startups. Ups and downs. Now living in a pretty nice house in the heart of Silicon Valley, I sometimes wonder if my dreams are still alive. Just like the cast of Halt and Catch Fire.
The series ends with an open question, the very question that started the series: "Let me start by asking a question."
Dreams start with a question. And like Phoenix, it's then all about the journey. People you meet and work with. The brainstorming. Sleepless nights. Iterate. Demos. Failures. Pivots. I loved every minutes of Halt and Catch Fire. It's been an amazing journey.
Absolutely love this show. Oliver does a great job at really making you think at the very important issues that just constantly get swept under the rug. Highly recommend this show.
This was one hell of a ride, fun, fast, smart, good story despite what some people said, nice black comedy with action... and stuff. Great performances and great chemistry between Gosling and Crowe they were very funny and the girl, well, I loved all her scenes, was cute and funny, she was great. Very good movie, my favorite from this year.
Do not watch this movie. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone definitely make a cute couple. They should just produce a romance with them. Wait for that movie instead of watching this now.
The characters seem to loose dimension. The plot between Peter and Gwen is basically:
"I am going to go." - "No don't go." - "Yes, I will go." - "Don't go away", etc. Who wrote that?
And then there are the two villains... Electro is a laughably 1 dimensional character that is simply ridiculous when he is still a human. As other form, he can atleast fight, kind of. The action scenes were actually so bad that I wanted to watch the whole "I will go to somewhere else" thingy Peter and Gwen got going on.
The green goblin is not too bad, however there are so many enemies in the Spider-Man universe, I don't think they should've brought one of the few back there were in the original trilogy. However, I already should've stopped watching when Electro first appeared, so what does it really matter anyways.
In conclusion:
- Weak characters development from the first movie "simplified", terrible dialog, missed potential, laughably terrible villain
+ Cute couple, 1 villain that is not complete %$§&
Do not watch this movie.
