What a lovely movie! Timothée Chalamet was made for roles like this, but for me Elle Fanning was the start of the movie, great acting by her, all the little things she did for her character were amazing. I really like movies like this, Woody Allen don't disappoint.
Typical Woody Allen movie. Super unrealistic behaviour, people in their early 20s talking and acting like pensioners. It feels like I am watching a theater play, not a movie. If it was ok back in the 70s, nowadays it's definitely quite stupid.
A little background - I am a huge Woody Allen fan. I've seen all of is films with the exception of two or three (Whatever Works and Anything Else come to mind). I've loved most of his works that were considered to be just "ok" and I think he has been on a great run in recent years as his last four or five movies were really underrated.
I knew five minutes in that I was in trouble with this one. The film felt like was it made by an amateurish movie maker that was trying to replicate a Woody Allen movie and only had a week to do it. Right out of the gate the dialog was unbelievably bad. The lead male is almost always the voice of Allen and I felt bad for Chalamet as he gave it a good try. The first part of the movie was spent trying to mix in obscure literary references along with New York City references (which made it feel that much more like a hack imitating Woody Allen). My wife and I kept looking at each other to ask "Did Woody Allen really write this?" With the exception of one scene near the very end (and oh what a scene it is, albeit brief) this film was a complete waste of time. The lone bright spot was Fanning as she nailed her character. Chalamet was good but he couldn't elevate a mediocre script in the same way that Cate Blanchett elevated Blue Jasmine to being a decent film. I also understand that this film was a reference to other films (as his movies often are).... the plot and ending were just so forgettable.
While watching this film I thought a lot about Quintin Tarantino. Tarantino has repeatedly said that he doesn't want to get to the point where he is "losing it" and thus he won't make films much longer. Hopefully this is just a blip and that Allen's next film (if there is one) will be stronger. If this does not come to pass then I appreciate what Woody has done and I certainly can't get worked up about him making one film too many.

Am I really the only one who noticed the character of director Roland Pollard seems like a reference to director Roman Polanski, making Rainy Day an inside joke from one sex offender to another while the young Elle Fanning trots about the film throwing herself at older men?
This fact aside, however, at least it's still a shit film. Every character (apart from the one played by Selena Gomez) is Allen so we're subjected to a parade of bad Woody impressions complete with jokes they're unable to pull off. Not to mention the surprisingly bad editing and a sadly predictable scenario. Fortunately, the film was poorly lit in an effort to hide just how awful this vanity project truly is.

Best to stay out of this storm or risk getting sick.
Too slow and simple. I expected more. It is not even a romantic comedy.
Dialogues, dialogues, dialogues and New York
Chalamet is great, Fanning is great, supporting characters are great. And i wanted to watch this movie cuz of Selena but somehow she's the one i hate the most, i mean what happened, has she forgotten acting? Seriously! She needs some serious acting lessons.
Holden Caulfield is as much of a phony as the rest of them.
The ones with the low rating are basically Ashleigh Enright
I loved it despite the tons of negative comments.
Kinda reminds me of The Catcher in the Rye
Far removed from classic Woody Allen - anything post-2000 can be considered the same - but this isn't a bad effort, and the two leads are good, as always.
Wow, that was BORING!!! Timothee Chalamet was probably the best thing in it.
Ce film me donne envie de retourner à New York
