Sure, this is cheeseball comedy, but Jim Carrey makes it memorable.
Aaaaawl-right-y-then! Now this film never gets old, Jim Carrey at his best, and just keeps on getting better, such an ace film, and fits like a glove! and you'll need a clean pair of shorts, because you'll laugh that much you'll piss your pants.. XD
genius Carry shows his great comedy talent and facial emotions again!!!
This was a great movie, and is still a great movie. If you're in the mood for something that isn't serious and older for a film, I would recommend this. Classic.

If it weren’t for its transphobic ending I would’ve enjoyed it more but the comedy and of course Carey’s acting was lots of fun, classic Jim Carrey for sure.
3 Thoughts After Re-Watching ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’:
One of my favorite comedies of all time. This is when I (and perhaps the rest of the world) fell in love with Jim Carrey.
I love how they decided to make this character equally intelligent and zany. There was — usually — a method to Ace’s madness.
Ace needs a comeback and I think Carrey could still pull it off.
there's some really great scenes in this movie, like the one when he comes home and calls all his animals. and jim carrey's exaggerated and cartoonish characterization is a high point.
but watching this now again... it made me really sick. i felt really, really bad. just, very transphobic and mysoginistic. "oh, but it was made in the 90s". very transphobic and mysoginistic still. so disrespectful.
nostalgia isn't really a great feeling.
I haven't watched this since I was a kid, its been ages. It (still) made me laugh, and that's the goal of any comedy. One joke may be a bit dated, but if you can look past it its okay. Ace is an over the top cartoon character come to life, but it works because he has a good heart, "cool guy" and smart/wit, but likes to be silly for no reason other than his character likes to make things interesting, even when they're not. Doesn't hurt young Jim carry is kinda cute too!
This had a whole transphobic/homophobic joke that was like the whole ending so it just sucked really
did not like the film cause that was basically the whole climax of the film “we we kissed a man so disgusting” and he was sick so much like seriously just get over it
I was a 90s kid and watched the Ace Ventura movies several times back in the day. Watching it like 20 or more years later it's less enjoyable, but it still has its greatly amusing moments. There was probably a lot I didn't actually fully comprehend back then, so certain things couldn't bother me. Now though, for example; I found it really distasteful when in the scenes it was being found out that a woman used to be a man and it was such a strong cause of being not only grossed out but vomiting, for not only one character but many. The vomiting was overkill. I understand those who might rate this far lower based on something like that, but I try to look at movies in their entirety and taking into account when they were made does apply. It doesn't make those scenes less homo/transphobic, but back then there wasn't education and awareness spread like it is now, and so it's not all that surprising that this type of thing would be used in this type of comedy without much thought. This movie is a good example and reference that things have changed and are changing. I can appreciate it for its time and enjoy the enjoyable parts while looking past the bad ones and just being glad that progress has been made. (Side note: I don't think offensive comedy is going anywhere and it shouldn't have to; it's just not for everyone! Maybe this movie could be viewed as teetering on the edge of offensive comedy at times, but I found it be mostly slapstick. The problematic scenes mentioned just aren't funny though.) Admittedly, if it were the first time I had ever seen it I might have rated it lower because part of my fondness is probably nostalgia related; but I think that's okay!

Not funny at all, I usually like Jim Carrey movies but I found this one boring and super forced comedy.
