A masterpiece. Worthy of any oscar (except Goth Girls acting). Especially for best original script. The part where they did a Fast and Furious and then let their classmates to die in a ditch? Classic.
(Seriously though: I hope that a part 2 still has a chance.)
I’m honestly not sure to do with this movie. I watched it because I’ve heard people refer to it in so many conversations. I knew it had gay content but I didn’t know it was a horror flick (which I usually avoid). Caitlin Stasey is a stand out beauty, in a movie that was relying on the draw of sexy, beautiful girls, but there is a magnetism that draws our attention every time she is on camera. I won’t try to pretend I know where this fits in the horror genre but it seems to my novice viewing that it turns a stereotype for zombie protagonists on its head. And, it has to be the most unusual love story, which is the motivation for the whole plot. The ending teased a part two but was that a lost promise? (Surprisingly, I think I’d watch it.) I give this film a 7 (surprisingly engaging) out of 10. [Horror]
This film is the definition of garbage. I love shitty films, truly love them, but this was just a nonsensical, obnoxiously in your face garbage. It honestly breaks my heart to see so many people loving this pile of garbage.
Clearly not a masterpiece but I won't lie, I had so much fun watching it(especially the second half when the pacing picks up a bit). If you take it for what it is I think you'll enjoy it
Lucky McKee often makes movies about powerful females, in which he both respects and fears them. May (2002) and The Woman's (2011) titular characters are very powerful and monstrously destructive. The dead cheerleaders, an epitome of young womanhood, must do bloody battle against the toxic masculinity that caused their demise. But they also lived in their own, uniquely toxic environment before their deaths. The catalyst of all this destruction resides in the tales of forlorn, unrequited love.
Listed as a horror, fantasy, comedy, the first part of the movie is unrelentingly grim as the cheerleaders struggle against each other for their places in the high school hierarchy. Actual y, as the body count rises, that grimness returns, making this a very unfunny comedy.
Still, what is not to love about a group of young, pretty maidens gyrating across the screen before indulging in their bloody repasts?
Giving it a first time spin for my 31 Days Of Horror. Fingers crossed for good horror/comedy...
