Antofagasta, New York 2018

The story, where women are portrayed as game pieces to be manipulated by the unsympathetic central character whom they all adore, is as uneven as they acting, but this is to be expected in a directorial debut. (I'm guessing the film is semi autobiographical and that Stjepan Ostoic Papic (writer / director / lead actor) was too close to the material to treat it with objectivity.)

What is impressive about Antofagasta, New York, though, is the directing itself. The images are fine, the editing decent and the sound is surprisingly good for a first timer. I'll be very interested to see what Papic comes up with next, especially if he's able to find a good script to work with.
