An exciting source material is placed in a modern environment full of IKEA model houses. What started out moderately is developing in a rather insignificant direction, which becomes even clearer with the last scene.
Ideas like the common thread, the bird people or the wanted creepy moments in the first half of the film are nicely meant highlights of the film. After seeing an old doll for the third time, this horror is more suitable for an amusing drinking game. Unfortunately, even the sparse VFX effects are getting scarier towards the end - but not in the desired horror sense.
Figures are introduced directly disagreeably stupid & contradictory, so that you don't have to be afraid of missing anything. In the end, you have the feeling that you have missed something important - there must have been something of interest or some new knowledge hidden. No. We are back at the beginning, but who cares. 3/10
It's hard to get past the Candyland-Hell lighting. The rest of the movie is downhill.
The concept and effects are the only good things about this terribly boring, plot hole filled movie.

Some of the ideas un the film are really good but there are not many situations where they are well performed. It falls into a lot of some of our most 'loved' clichés like: the chosen one, the girl who is different and can take care of herself, the bully becomes friend and so on, there was a point un the movie when I was already wondering what the next cliché to appear would be. The movie actually looks quite well, it has some great shots and frames that were really well done, some scenes really are disturbing in the middle of this inconsistent story and I think they really can save this film, at least a little. The characters were, in my opinion, so annoying and dislikeable because of how cartoonish and unreal they can be, from the start of the movie I hated our 'hero' from almost the start until the very last second, no matter how much the movie tries to make me believe he has grown or something, he is just the same plain and maleable to conveniente character he was from the start.
