08/10.
Gosh this is a good movie. Maybe I like it more because I am a sucker for white collar crime dramas. This is a complete Hugh Jackman show. Maybe his best performance in years outside of Logan.
I could see how this movie could feel boring to some but as far as I am concerned Cory Finley is 2/2 after Thoroughbreds and this.
True crime with Allison Janney and Hugh Jackman? Count me in. And it didn't disappoint, but it also didn't amaze. I was surprised by how straightforward the entire film was. There were rarely any surprise turns and what small twists there were, were telegraphed well in advance. Thankfully the performances were solid and the story was intriguing enough to hold my attention.
Worth watching for Hugh Jackman.
The movie is alright, run of the mill. Nothing new.
But, Jackman makes it worth watching.
This movie is about a scandal in a Long Island school district not long after the turn of the century. The story is interesting and the acting is excellent (as you would expect with Jackman and Janney as the leads). The movie is exactly what you would expect it to be, for better worse. This is probably a good example of a movie with a high floor and low ceiling - if you're looking for a safe movie choice this is a good one.

Certainly surprising, a movie that grew into it's own before your eyes.
Hope lm doing it right
[HBO] Corruption is worse when surrounded by silence. Like a matryoshka doll, the story discovers the surprises step by step. And in this game of truth and lies it is Hugh Jackman's performing that masterfully drives towards the end. "Accelerated".
There is a very interesting scandal mixed in with a slow start, unmotivated choices and relationships, a few cookie cutter characters and mild pacing issues throughout.
It could have been better.
A Darkly Charismatic Hugh Jackman As The Superintendent Who Stole $2 Million From The New Jersey School District A True White Collar Crime & All It Took Was A Determined School Reporter To Pull The String & The Whole Thing To Come Apart
Familiar Actors In Unfamliar Roles, A Simple Story That Unfolded Into An Explosion That I Really Wasn’t Expecting From Them. Embezzlement Of The School District By The Charismatic Superintendent That Put It On The Map. Hugh Jackman & Ray Romano Were Brilliant, And Allison Janney Was Fantastic As Well - A Fun & Brilliant Story And Great Ensemble Of Actors Worth Watching
Not all what you expected after watching the trailer, its quite boring.
Film 124 (Goal: 300) of 2024:
I had little expectations on this but this was surprisingly really enjoyable. The always fantastic Hugh Jackman gets to excel in the role of the Superintendent with many secrets, living a double life. Jackman is so charming that even though he's hiding many secrets, bordering on psychopathic, you can't help but root for him to get away with it. He's partnered by Allison Janney, who sometimes I can find one note - but even with a reduced role, she's very good. The remainder of the cast, including Geraldine Viswanathan (of Blockers and Miracle Workers fame), Alex Wolff, Rafael Casal and Ray Romano. I would liked an extra scene or two with Geraldine's character, just to understand the impact of her revelation from a school students perspective
Bad Education is a film that doesn't get talked about often, and is likely a forgotten piece of the filmography's of well versed actors like Jackman and Janney. But that aside, it should be viewed as one of their more underrated films, as it's a really well put together entry into their catalogue.
To put it lightly, this is a very different one for Hugh Jackson. He is great (as always) and the supporting cast is no slouch either! I also went in not knowing the synapsis, so I was surprised to get a true crime type of film! It is well told and engaging. A quality release by HBO!

Never heard about this story before and i was really shocked..Directing is very good and perfomances from the main actors are great too.
7.2/10
By no means a spectacular plot. You know immediately, that Frank encouraging Rachel to determine what her article is about will be his doom. Only the performances of the actors make this a good movie. The music was pretty good too, though sometimes a bit too dominant.
A typical story about a narcissistic sociopath that takes advantage of their public office and government resources for personal gain. No, it's not about Trump.
What the hell was that ending though? Why does Hugh Jackman keep trying to make us sympathize with narcissistic conmen? First P.T. Barnum, now this?
I love most things with Allison Janney in, this is no exception. It's a good film, I was really surprised to see at the end that its based on a true story. Oh and an extra star for having Dido's White Flag as the end credits song and reminding me of my teenagehood!
I was completely surprised by how good it is. This is why I love Cinema. The big name movies and big name directors makes you expect things, you are not totally surprised by what you see. What I love about movies is that I still see movies that completly surprise me. I was expecting to see an average movie and was not really in the mood to see a movie about high school and instead I got a movie like if it was made by David Fincher with great score.
A good film and a story I wasn't familiar with, Jackman and Janney were great, and so were the rest of the cast. Certainly taught me a lesson... don't judge a book by its cover, especially if that book is symbolic of a former english teacher.
It was worth watching, I didn't really follow it very well. Hugh Jackman was pretty good, but I didn't really feel it.
Great movie based on a true story about corruption in the school system. I really enjoyed it. Hugh Jackman was great as Frank a school superintendent who embezzles money from a school. A great watch this year.
Bad Education was a delightful surprise. It went into this movie just because of quarantine I felt like I needed to see more movies that came out this year and I was surprised how good this movie was. The plot is good it’s a great true story to make a movie on. The acting is great Hugh Jackman gives a terrific performance. Definitely his best performance yet and I’ll have to wait until later this year but I won’t be surprised if Hugh Jackman gets nominated for the Oscar. The direction is good I’ll be on a watch for his later films. The cinematography is good and so is the score. Overall it’s a great crime drama that I recommend during this quarantine.

Was very good and very interesting
Great movie. The kind that in the 70s would have been a big hit.
