I'm not crying. You're crying. runs away sobbing
There is not really much to say about this short film. The story doesn't amaze, but it touches a theme that is maybe not as discussed as it should be.
From a technical point of view, it is absolutely stunning. The animation of the food preparation at the start it's one of the best I've ever seen. And the baby bao is probably the cutest thing I've ever seen.
Overall nothing surprising or anything, but an entertaining 8 minutes. 6/10
Right. So a pining mother goes a bit mad and pretends a dumpling is her son. She then eats the dumpling because it’s going to leave her.
That’s a weird AF metaphor which, in all honesty, I’m not even sure I understand. Who eats their own son!?
And then the real son comes back anyway...
So basically, she was sad and had dinner and he came home.
A really nice and heartwarming metaphor for (s)motherhood.
Omg when she swallowed… I was like what kind of Disney/Pixar movie is this :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:
the method of storytelling is interesting
I must admit, I was really confused at first when this played, since I was seeing Incredibles 2, but quickly realize it's one of those short films.
Anywhere, the short itself was cute and innocent, however a little bit too obvious and it's reveal wasn't anything surprising for me to get emotional, as it intended.
Still well made though.
i thought this was like a horror film when she ate it but apparently it’s a metaphor. didn’t make any sense until people explained but maybe that’s :pound_symbol:autism rather than the film’s fault
Seriously, it's a 7 minute film. The people whining seen to have no real reason not to like the film except they don't know what a Bao is. It's a bread like filled dumpling that can be filled with meat, veggies, or even sweet dessert filling. She loves her son so much, like her favorite dumplings that she can't accept his choices. The message is let your children grow up, make their own choices and if you give it a chance, their choices might be something you're very proud of.

Decent little short, but the jackasses in my theater wouldn't shut up. Even during the moments clearly meant to tug on the heart strings, everyone was laughing. Have audiences become so used to jokes that they expect nothing but mind numbing stimuli when they go to the theater? I guess screw everyone who's wanting to make it big telling dramatic stories. Yes, there are parts of this short that are clearly humorous, but I'm talking the emotional climax. I was ready to walk out, it was so bad. Cinema is dead.
nice story and the method of storytelling was interesting
the film will absolutely convenience Asians..
It is the most beautiful movie I've watched this year.It shows that today's egoistic generation should take a step back to think about their parents , they do so much for us and we can't even a say a simple thank you.A must watch for everyone.
This was such an amazing short story. I've been talking about baozi just a few days before and flew to China the day after seeing it. It was a really emotional story.

I feel like most of people were upset just because they think they didn't understand this story, the whole joke came from a cantonese saying so the story may not be for everyone but hating something just because you don't undersand it? Like come on the animation is flawless!
