Block Pass 2025

[Cannes '24] The director's decision to tell the story from Willy's point of view prevents the film from falling into the clichés of cinema about young people oppressed by their homosexuality and broadens the perspective towards a story of growth that goes beyond of the representation of a toxic masculinity that affects certain sexual tendencies. Willy himself also suffers the consequences of intolerance, insults and violence for having an understanding attitude towards his friend, which is an interesting perspective on how the homophobia affects many more people than the victims themselves. Although there is a family dynamic that is predictable, it achieves a mostly accurate portrait of the consequences of sexist culture in certain places, with a splendid and sometimes oppressive soundtrack by the brothers Sacha and Evgueni Galperine.
