I'm a little surprised that the animated short film "Boom" made it onto the Oscar shortlist. The film is admittedly somewhat entertaining and reasonably funny. But there is no real artistic ambition or originality to be found. The animation style has been done dozens of times before, and there is hardly any plot. As a result, I would be extremely surprised if it received an Oscar nomination.
