Bruised 2020

While performance and directing from H.Berry were great, what really captured my heart and feelings was the little boy and his drama. Probably one of the saddest performances of this year. Danny Boyd was amazing in a average but ok movie.

Not a bad movie but it is predictable and overlong. Berry deserves credit for what she has delivered here but that delivery, sadly, isn't a knockout blow.

Halle Berry was awesome and she did a great job at directing it too. Only big problem for me was the grandma storyline: she went from leaving the kid with the mom but he was sitting in the pouring rain in flip flops and she said the mom needs to clean up her mess with the kid and leaves. Yet later in the movie she becomes the dotting grandma saying he was found at 11 pm outside a theatre (not in the rain) and that she will take care of him now.... There was a non-existent progression for this character and it did not fit into the story very well. Storyline was similar to other movies in this category, but overall I liked this take on the genre.

I found this film too one-note to be super engaging. even though it has a lot of great elements and beautiful performances. It's very sad and quiet and just needed more variety. The fight scene is fantastic though, super well choreographed and shot. I also appreciated a fight film featuring women in which their gender in their sport wasn't a main plot point. I wouldn't watch again but I enjoyed it well enough once.

I hated every character in this movie.

A hearty applause to Halle Berry. All round she's done a great job here.

The weakest part of this whole thing is the plot - it's predictable and hits all the Rocky/Warrior tropes.

But the rest of this deserves huge praise.

Halle Berry's performance is fantastic. Totally convincing and she's working overtime on emotions. For her acting, she deserves nominations and even awards. The direction is sure-footed and the pacing is excellent.

The supporting cast are very good. The young man does a great job. It's a highly praiseworthy cast across the board.

For all its predictability, it is eminently engrossing. And the final scenes got exactly what I thought I was too old and grizzled to do... Shed a little tear.

Well worth your time. Kudos to Miss Berry and all involved.

8/10

A strong one from halle berry, still kicking arse with her acting, a decent film with a heart.

I'm a huge fan of the sport and Halle Barry so I was really looking forward to this one. MMA movies don't really have a good track record apart from Warrior. This movie is not the exception either, unfortunately.

Halle is good, but that's like calling water wet. A satisfactory performance is not enough to save this very below-average drama. It's a tired plot we've seen a million times before with a predictable ending.

I liked seeing Valentina Shevchenko in it and she should get more roles.

Terrific performance from Halle Berry. Oscar on sight!

The amount of effort that Halle Berry put into this role is definitely impressive, and getting Valentina Shevchenko to be part of the film was also pretty cool.

It kind of followed a Rocky format.

This was the directorial debut for Halle Berry who also stars in this movie. Great cast (including Valentina Shevchenko, a former UFC Women's Flyweight Champion). There is a lovely heart to the film in the character of Manny (played so well by Danny Boyd, Jr.) that brought all the stories together. The fight scenes were brutal and you have to admire Halle Berry’s devotion to her film. She trained two years for the role and, during the big fight scene, one of Valentina’s kicks landed hard and she broke two of Halle’s ribs. Berry didn’t report the injury, or stop filming the scene, for fear the insurance people would shut down the project. I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. [Mixed Martial Arts Fight Flick]

Predictable yet immensely emotional and satisfying tale of a fighter's path to redemption. The acting will keep you riveted to the screen even as the story goes exactly where you know it will.

Now someone go put Danny Boyd Jr. in a bubble of pure love and protect him forever
