Every scene can apply to your own experience. It's hilarious and so fun because of that

Can’t Hardly Wait is an entertaining and fun teen comedy that’s surprisingly insightful. A high school graduation party proves to be a watershed moment as several characters take their last shots at love, revenge, redemption, and friendship. While the story’s a bit generic, it also takes the characters on a journey of self-discover that’s more thoughtful than one would expect from a teen film. Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Seth Green, Jaime Pressly, and Freddy Rodríguez, the cast is quite impressive, and their performances do a good job at giving some personality to these otherwise stereotypical characters. Additionally, the film has an excellent soundtrack that has a lot of energy and captures the tone of the material. Despite some flaws, Can’t Hardly Wait speaks to the ‘90s high school experience in a way that few films of the time were able to.
Pretty decent 90s movie, if you love movies from then, this is one to watch.
"You know who else I like that never got much play? Velma from Scooby-Doo!"
Jason Segel eagerly agreeing with that point a year before meeting and costarring with future Velma/girlfriend Linda Cardellini in Freaks and Geeks always makes me enjoy that moment even more.
Upon its release, in 1998, I recall viewing this as just another by-the-numbers teen sex comedy - and in some ways it is.
However it would be unfair to dismiss that this is far better than it has any business being.
While it's not wrong to lump this in with American Pie or any other analogs, there really is a lot of heart along with the comedy - and as much as I love the raunchy style of some of the comedies from that era, this one keeps it quite clean (i.e., no nudity).
The plot here is all about trying to find love, though not focused on only one person, we get three stories woven together at a post-high-school-graduation party.
Many of the tropes are going to be obvious to anyone who has ever watched a teen movie. The comedy all works, even though some of it is so absurd that it dips into parody - the likes of which would be copy pasted by Not Another Teen Movie three years later.
Moving on, the cast is perfect - seriously, just a who's who going on - the soundtrack has great selections from the '90s, as well as older songs that carry the emotional weight for the more serious moments.
I'd recommend this to almost anyone, especially people who like Sixteen Candles or Superbad.
90 mins of desperate attempts hitting on girls
Liked this more than American Pie. Jennifer Love Hewitt
