Cold Skin 2017

The nearest we are going to get to Lovecraft's Cthulu tales for the time being, this was a pretty good film for something that flew (swam) under the radar. I wish the mythology had been fleshed out a little more, but it was still an entertaining movie.

I really enjoyed this movie. Really well played and this shows us we need to think outside the box when it comes to other creatures with intelligence.

I had never heard of this film. I have never met someone else who has seen this. I've read some of the reviews and I'm a tad surprised at how many people didn't speak very highly of it. Me thinks those people were made uncomfortable by their enjoyment of the fish people fornication. Can't say I blame them. It took me by surprise. I had to look up the actress that played Aneris just to make myself feel more normal. (Aura Garrido Sánchez, look her up.)

This movie is crazy dark with a wild story and of course, the fish thing. I enjoyed it immensely. The setting makes you feel wet, cold and isolated. The cinematography completes the package. The story is dark and creepy. It makes your skin crawl. It's also original, so you never really feel like you've seen it before. I can't say much about the story without ruining it, but I recommend it highly.

Doesn’t quite live up to the promise, but still solid and definitely more than just a "lonely isolated men banging a blue sea creature" film. It's a very character-driven survival horror that touches on colonialism and all of its ugliness, with built in isolation coming from a fantastic looking location. It doesn’t go any direction you wouldn’t expect it to go, but it does what it has to do and does that well. There's a good balance between well-constructed action and the philosophical themes. Though it doesn't explore them with too much depth, the film never loses the artistry in each and every shot. The two leads are good and carry the film on their own well and the practical effects are really good on the creature design. Definitely worth seeing. This one's leaving Shudder today.

It was a decent film, had lots of good action, specially in the bed room.. that I can’t forget.. that I wish I never saw.. anyways.. I thought the plot could of had more detail, and the ending could of been better but that’s pretty much it..

Leaves you with a quite Lovecraftian vibe.

I'ma tell my kids this is The Lighthouse.

On the eve of World War I, a young technician is dropped off at a barren rock off an island where he's to record the weather patterns for a year. He soon finds out there's a dark population that haunts the island at night, and a reluctant ally in the hardened lighthouse keeper.

This fable about war works well overall with it's battle scenes and strong directing, it just fails to inject the humanity that it wants to at the end.

Interesting movie. My brain was kept busy trying to understand if this was a horror movie, monster movie, or drama, but it's all of the above.

The film had everything to be good, the ending is very vague. Monsters with great qualities, lovely suspense, character with very well crafted problems, the idea that the movie leaves is good, but the movie itself, after you finish watching the only thing that went through my head was "what a pathetic ending."

It takes a few narrative licenses against the most claustrophobic and tragic novel.
