European art cinema is a branch of cinema that was popular in the latter half of the 20th century. It is based on a rejection of the tenets and techniques of classical Hollywood cinema.
This is a list of movies made in France by release date which I've seen mostly on TV or on theaters when I was growing up. Some are masterpieces, some are mindless entertainment and everything in between, the point being all were enjoyable to me as a kid.
Movies released during the 1960s to watch
Up to 400 films are shown every year as part of the Berlinale's public programme, the vast majority of which are world or European premieres. Films of every genre, length and format can be submitted for consideration. The Golden Bear (German Goldener Bär) is the highest prize awarded for the best film shown during this festival.
