Dark Night 2017

[Filmin] The dissection of the hours that precede one of the greatest massacres committed in the United States is, however, a look that does not aim at exposing violence. There are two realities showed in parallel: that of daily life, but also that which takes place in the background, in the news (where precisely the massacre is discussed). A kind of narrative dialogue between what precedes and what has already been.

Tim Sutton composes a reflection of a society that produces monsters (the normality of weapons, alienation, boredom ...), while creating moments of tension that certainly do not end in anything (the rifle in the window, the scream of the young women in the parking lot ...) but it doesn't mean to. And in this sense it ends up being more disturbing, although surely less suggestive.

An interesting mood piece, but in its attempts to relate to the real life shootings at the Dark Knight screening a few years back, this sadly misfires.
